UNM offers filmmaking for teens
Independent Staff
GALLUP An intensive two-week program to teach
28 McKinley County sophomores, juniors, or seniors about all aspects
of filmmaking will take place at UNM-Gallup this summer.
Film Boot Camp Gallup, which will run from June 4 though June 15,
will feature writing, acting, directing, filming, and editing classes.
Students accepted to the camp will receive a scholarship to cover
the camp's costs.
Students who successfully complete the camp will also receive five
college credits for their work. During the camp, students will create
their own films, and they will premiere their movies at the camp's
conclusion.
"We'll be learning but having plenty of fun too," said
Pamela Stovall, associate professor of Communication and Journalism
at UNM-Gallup and the director of Film Boot Camp Gallup.
"Speakers will be coming from all over New Mexico as well as
from Los Angeles to talk to the students," said Stovall. "We're
very excited about the quality of the programming."
Applications must be postmarked by May 1. Sophomores and juniors
will receive priority in the application process.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday,
on the UNM-Gallup campus. Lunch will be provided. Students will
be responsible for their own transportation to and from UNM-Gallup.
Film Boot Camp Gallup is made possible with the support of the New
Mexico Department of Higher Education and UNM-Gallup.
For more information or for an application form, e-mail Pamela Stovall
at pstovall@gallup.unm.edu. Interested students will receive an
electronic application form.
