Mattie Laughlin
FT. DEFIANCE Funeral services for Mattie
C. Lauglin, 83, was at 10 a.m. today at Good Shepard Mission.
Rev. Richard Stevens officiated. Burial followed on Cleveland
family burial site. Visitation was today, one hour prior to services.
Laughlin died March 31 in Farmington. She was born May 23, 1923
in Ft. Defiance into the Mud People Clan for the Edgewater People
Clan.
Survivors include her son Franklin Lewis.
She was prededed in death by her husband Harry Laughlin; parents
Ahyeanth Bah Cleveland and Sam Cleveland; sisters Annette, Rose,
Maggie and Nellie Cleveland; brothers Joe and Ned Cleveland.
Pallbearers will be Karlson Tso, Ramone Brown, Raymond Bowman,
Steven Wauneka, and Reynaldo Brown.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Good Shepherd
Thorn Building in Ft. Defiance.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

FARMINGTON Funeral services for Mary
Ethel Logan, 92, will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, at the
Pinon Hills Community Chruch in Farmington. Pastor Tim Hargrove
will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation
will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Thurs., April 5 at Cope Mortuary in
Farmington.
Logan died April 1 in Grants. She was born May 22, 1914 in Bradley,
Arkansas.
She was employed as a waitress for over 60 years at Skyliner,
Blue Spruce, Mayflower, and Chef Bernie. She was a long-time member
of Pinon Hills Community Church and attended the First Baptist
Church in Gallup for the last two and a half years. She enjoyed
crocheting for family and made crochet quilts for U.S. servicemen.
She also enjoued spending time with her godson and family.
Survivors include her godson Marvin Gray of Gallup; brothers,
Forrest Sutton and Edd Sutton, both of Arkansas; sister, Margaret
Louise Nelson of Springhill, La.; 2 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.W. (Dick) Logan; parents,
John and Nora Miller; sisters, Nora Lee Frazier and Georgia Miller;
brother, J.W. Sutton.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Gray, Les Aldrich, Richard Gomez, Keith
Corley, Ron Jones, and Jim Lanier.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinon Hills Community
Church after services.
Donations may be made to Pinion Hills Community Church in Farmington
or First Baptist Church in Gallup.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

PINEDALE Funeral services for Evelyn
R. Johnson,70, will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at Rollie
Palm Chapel. Burial will follow at the Gallup City Cemetery.
Johnson died March 31 in Gallup. She was born Sept. 1, 1936 in
Tohatchi into the Towering House People Clan for the Folded Arms
People Clan.
Survivors include her husband, David Johnson of Pinedale; sons,
Dennis Charley of Pinedale and Raymond Charley of Coyote Canyon;
daughters, Dina Johnson of Brimhall, Carol Johnson, Sylvia Johnson,
and Jo Ann Johnson, all of Pinedale; sisters, Nora Thompson, Marie
Tulley, Esther Johnson, and Bessie Smith, all of Brimhall, and
Emma Pinto of Vanderwagon; 32 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Ervin Charlie and James
Charlie; parents, Frank and Marie Dennison; sisters, Kathleen
Dennison and Mary Dennison.
Pallbearers will be Myron Charlie, Michael Charlie, Brian Charlie,
Brandon Charlie, Davis Willie, and Milton Joe.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Pinedale
chapter House following the burial.
Francis Platero
THOREAU Funeral services for Francis
Platero, 59, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Thoreau
Church of God. Rev. Ray Barker will officiate. Burial will follow
at the Thoreau Cemetery.
Platero died March 31 in Thoreau. He was born October 14, 1947
in Crownpoint into the Towering House People Clan for the Zia-Hairy
Ones/Weaver People Clan.
Platero attended Crownpoint Boarding School, Ft. Wingate High
School and Crownpoint Institute of Technology. He was employed
by Gallup Indian Medical Center, Giant Travel Center, and Navajo
Child Development. Platero was a Vietman Veteran with the "101
Airborne Soaring Eagles." He received the Vietnam Veteran
Bronz Star Medal and Cross of Gallantry with Palm and was a member
of the Thoreau Veterans Organization. He enjoyed fishing, hiking,
riding atv's, music, singing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Platero of Thoreau; sons,
Anthony Platero and Frederick Platero both of Thoreau; daughter,
Amanda Jean Platero-Larson of Thoreau; sisters, Helen Martin of
Crownpoint, Lolita Emerson of Thoreau, and Alice Wilson of Rock
Point; 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Frank Platero and Nellie C. Platero;
brothers, Kee Platero and Edward Platero; sisters, Eva Platero
and Christine Tom; son, Ervin Platero.
Pallbearers will be David M. Henio, Robin Wood, Samuel C. Yazzie,
Jayson Benally, Anthony Platero, and Frederick Platero.
The family will receive family and friends at the Christine Platero
residence after services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

SAN RAFAEL Funeral services for Robert "Gino"
Valdez Jr., 45, will be announced at a later date.
Valdez died April 2 in Espanola, N.M. He was born Sept. 14, 1961
in Grants, N.M.
