A view looking up from underneath the "Fire and Ice" sculpture
in Grants, New Mexico shows the arches against blue skies and fluffy
clouds. Created in 1998 by Howard and Kathleen Meehan, the arches
are a reflection of the local landscape, including La Vantana and
the Ice Caves and represent Grants as the "intersection of
nature, culture and history." [Photo by Jeff Jones/Independent]
Search Yields Nothing: New Mexico State Police officers replace
the stereo sub-woofers after searching a vehicle during a traffic
stop Wednesday along I-40 near exit 20. The vehicle's driver said
he was en route to Los Angeles when officers pulled him over for
allegedly following another vehicle too closely. The vehicle search
did not turn up anything and he was allowed to resume his trip.
