Helen Carver
GALLUP Memorial services for Helen (Vidovich) Carver,
80, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at Sacred Heart Cathedral
Church. Father OKeefe will officiate.
Carver died July 28, 2007 in Erie, Pa. She was born May 26, 1927
in Gallup.
Carver attended Gallup High School. She was active in the Catholic
Church and the Tri-Slavic Lodge. Carver loved playing cards, crocheting,
and bingo. She was fluent in three languages and loved striking
up conversations with everyone she met.
Survivors include her sons, Craig Carver of Gallup, Kenneth Carver
of Gallup, James Carver of Erie, Pa., and Russell Carver of Gallup;
daughters, Carla Flanigan of Erie, Pa. and Susan Troncoso of Omaha,
Neb.; sisters, Matilda Anaya of Gilroy, Calif. and Elizabeth Salyer
of Yuba City, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
Carver was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Carver, Jr.;
parents, Joseph and Mary Vidovich; brothers, George Vidovich,
John Vidovich, and Charles Vidovich; sisters, Annie Pass and Mary
Cagno; two infant children; and one grandchild.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Craig Carvers
residence following the services.
Tonie Chavez
GRANTS Funeral Mass for Tonie Chavez, 59, will be at 10
a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate. Burial will follow at the
Grants Memorial Park.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at St. Teresa
of Avila Catholic Church.
Chavez died Aug. 8, 2007 in Albuquerque. She was born June 13,
1948 in Anthony, N.M.
Chavez retired from the Grants-Cibola County Schools after 30
years of service. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority
and St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent Chavez of Grants/Acoma;
brothers, Presciliano Herrera, Jr. of El Paso, Texas and Alberto
Herrera of Anthony; sisters, Aurelia Holguin of San Miguel, N.M.,
Mary Lou Herrera of Anthony; Frances Gonzales of El Paso, Texas,
Teresa Flores of Albuquerque, Cecilia Herrera ofd El Paso, Texas,
Mela Cajen of Grants, and Stella Herrera of La Mesa, N.M.
Chavez was preceded in death by her parents, Presciliano Herrera,
Sr. and Rodolfa Contreras Herrera; and brother, Augustine Herrera.
Henry Shorty
CROSS CANYON, Ariz. Funeral services for Henry Shorty,
83, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at St. Michaels Catholic
Church. Fr. Ron Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at
Kinlichee Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Shorty died Aug. 8, 2007 in Cross Canyon, Ariz. He was born Jan.10,
1924 in Cross Canyon.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Shorty; sons, Raymond
Shorty and Benjamin H. Shorty; daughters, Barbara Begay of Cross
Canyon, Emily S. Cooke of Kayenta, Genevieve Shorty of Mesa, Roberta
Begay of Cross Canyon, Evalina Begay, Marita Price, Virginia Mann,
all of Cross Canyon; sister, Priscella Harlow; 52 grandchildren;
67 great-grandchildren.
Shorty was preceded in death by his sons, Dan Shorty and Leroy
Shorty; parents, Sam Curtis and Ason Nez Shorty; brothers, Tom
Shorty, Sam Shorty, and Francis Shorty; and one grandson.
Pallbearers will be Elson Mann, Leo Clement, Jr., Ralphlee Begay,
Daniel Shorty, Jefferson Shorty, and Ferdinand Cooke.
Ralph Walker
WILDCAT Memorial services for Ralph Robert Walker, 49,
will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12 at Bible Navajo Mission and
Wildcat Christian Academy, mile marker 9 at highway 264.
Walker died July 4, 2007 in Fort Myers, Fla. He was born Jan.
4, 1958.
Walker was known as Big Bob. He worked for the Bible
Navajo Mission as the maintenance man in addition to other duties.
Walker traveled to numerous cities because of his fathers
career.
Survivors include his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Robert D. Walker
of Fort Meyers; four brothers, and three sisters.
Jimmie Denetso
GREASEWOOD Funeral services for Jimmie Kelly Denetso,
72, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at Our Lady of the Rosary
Church in Greasewood. Bro. Paul OBrien will officiate. Burial
will follow at Greasewood Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour to services.
Denetso died Aug. 9, 2007 in Ganado. He was born March 27, 1936
in Ganado into the Honey Combed Rock People Clan for the Red House
People Clan.
Denetso attended Intermountain Indian School and was employed
by BNSF and BIA. He was a member of the Native American Church.
His hobbies included being with family and friends and attending
song and dance.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Denetso of Greasewood; sons,
Aloin Denetso of Gallup and Albert Denetso of Artesia; daughters,
Geraldine Denetso of Gallup, Sharon Edsitty of Gallup, Blanche
Lee of White Cone, Ariz, Jermaine Denetso of Indian Wells, Ariz.
and Georgiana Segina of Greasewood; sisters, Marion Lee of Greasewood
and Rosemary Gonzales of Houck; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Denetso was preceded in death by his son Adrian Denetso; and
parents, Jane K. Denetso and Elmer Denetso.
Pallbearers will be Alex Segina, Emerson Edsitty, Jasper James,
Amos Lee, Jr., Jimson Edsitty, and Dennis Whitegoat.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Seginas
residence, 166-10 new NHA housing after services.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Delphine Dennison
GANADO Funeral services for Delphine Monroe Dennison,
47, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2007 at the Ganado Presbyterian
Church. Pastor Mark Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow
at the Dolth H. Curley Plot in Ganado.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Dennison died Aug. 8, 2007 in Scottsdale. She was born May 9,
1960 in Ganado into the Edgewater People Clan for the Salt People
Clan.
Dennison was a very outgoing, friendly, and loving person who
assisted her family when needed. She was a member of the Ganado
Baptist Church and volunteered her services .
Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Dennison.
Dennison was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Monroe and
Grace C. Monroe; brother, Joseph Curley; grandparents, Dolth Curley
and Nagebah Slivers.
Pallbearers will be Darryl Monroe, Fernando Jones, Duhon James,
Royce Jones, Wyatt Jones, and Marty Todacheenie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Ganado Chapter
House following services.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Duane Kurley
GANADO Funeral services for Duane Howard Kurley, 47, will
be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at the Ganado Presbyterian Church.
Pastor Mark Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow on the Dolth
H. Kurley family plot in Ganado.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Kurley died August 11, 2007 in Gallup. He was born May 29, 1960
in Polacca, Ariz.
Kurley graduated from Sherman Indian School in Riverside, Calif.
He was employed with Sage Hospital in the Dietary Department as
a cook helper. Kurley was a member of the Ganado Baptist Church
and enjoyed helping people.
Survivors include his parents, Webster and Gertrude Kurley of
Ganado; brothers, Lynn Curley of Ganado and Matthew Curley of
Odessa, Texas; sisters, Martha Kurley of Albuquerque.
Kurley was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy E. Kurley;
and grandparents, Dolth H. Curley, Nagebah Slivers, and Stanley
and Mabel Dashee.
Pallbearers will be Fabian Chasing Hawk, Tim H. Curley, Samuel
White, Erwin Curley, Daniel Curley, and Judd Young.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Ganado Chapter
House following services.
