Charlotte Kanouse

GALLUP — Funeral services for Charlotte S. Kanouse, 61, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Native Bible Fellowship Center. Pastor Scarbrough will officiate. Burial will follow on family land in Twin Lakes. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today, Aug. 15 at Rollie Mortuary.
Kanouse died Aug. 12 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 16, 1945 in Fort Wingate into the Mexican People Clan.

Kanouse graduated from the UNM Nursing School. She was employed at GIMC and McKinley Manor.

Survivors include her sons, Jason Lee Frame, Jr. of Socorro, N.M; daughters, Lana Lee Elder of Rio Rancho, N.M., Charmaine Lee Ledbetter of Artesia, N.M., and Melanie D. Metzler of Fort Hood,Texas, Crystal L.Kanouse of Maricopa, Ariz.; brothers, Francis Cooley and Herman Sherman both of Twin Lakes; sisters, Betty Powell and Bertha Francis both of Twin Lakes; and eight grandchildren.

Kanouse was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Kinsel; and brothers, Louis Descheeney and Andrew Bekinnie.

Pallbearers will be Jason Lee Frame, Jr., Keith Elder, Matthew Metzler, Lee Ledbetter, Zachary Villanueva, Christopher Lindstrom, Christopher Francis, Tom Lewis, Sean Lewis, and Matthew Powell.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Twin Lakes Chapter House following the services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to S.W. Indian Foundation.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Mary Avery

LUPTON — Funeral services for Mary Smith Avery, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at Cope Memorial hapel. Reverend Francis Teller will officiate. Burial will follow on the family plot in Lupton.

Avery died Aug. 9 in Lupton. She was born May 15, 1920 in Lupton into the Mexican People Clan for the Towering House People Clan. Avery was a silversmith, rug weaver, gardener, and a rancher.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Lowe of Albuquerque; daughters, Minnie Malone of Gallup, Rose Goodluck Jones of Fort Defiance, Louise Watch of Fort Defiance, Ruth Ann Jim of Keams Canyon Sherry Yazzie of Lupton, and Malinda harley of Lupton; brothers, eonard Smith of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Alice Blackgoat of Blackhat, N.M., Lillie Smith of Lupton, Fannie Silversmith of Lupton, and Ann Curley of Lupton; 51 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Avery was preceded in death by her husband, Tulley Avery; sons, Victor Goodluck, Frank Lowe, and Teddy James, Jr.; daughter, Audrey Smith; brother, Albert Smith; sisters, Nancy Mitchell, Victoria Smith, and EllaMae Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Oscar White, Ronald Watch, Tyrane Kugler, Hector Goodluck, Kevin Charley, Antonio Nez, and Michael Avery Watch.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Lupton Chapter House following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Elizabeth Cooper

MARLOW, Okla. — Funeral services for Elizabeth Phylis Shabi Cooper, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow. Rev. Simmon Harjo will officiate. Burial will be at the Marlow Cemetery.

Cooper died Aug. 11, 2007 in Marlow. She was born February 19, 1932 in White Comb, Ariz.

Cooper graduated from Haskell Institution in Lawrence, Kan. She worked for the Oklahoma Employment Office in the Aging Department and the Duncan Nutrition Service. Cooper njoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the St. York Indian Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Larson Cooper of Odessa, Texas; and nieces, Mary Alice Todechine of Arizona, Louise Ashkie of Idaho, and Bernita Platero of New Mexico.

Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Preston Cooper; parents, James and Elizabeth (Doloshene) Shabi; and brothers, Larson Shabi, Tom Shabi, and James Shabi, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Shabi, James Kingfisher, Al Bert Cooper, II, David Cooper, Lonnie Cooper, and Michael Cooper.
