Jerilene Joe

ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. – Services for Jerilene Joe, 49, will be at 10 a.m., today, Aug. 25 at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament in Fort Defiance. Father Ron Walters, OFM officiated. Burial followed in the St. Michaels community cemetery.

Joe died Aug. 22, 2007 in Santa Fe. She was born Dec. 21, 1957 in Los Angeles, Calif., into the Towering House People Clan for the Big Water People Clan.

Joe graduated from Gallup High School in 1978 and worked as a bank teller and housekeeper at Great Western Bank in Window Rock. She was also a census taker and silversmith. She enjoyed walking and being with friends and relatives.

Survivors include her daughters Tara Duran, Tasha Duran and Tiffany Duran, all of Santa Fe; father Colbert Joe, Jr., of St. Michaels; brothers Colbert Joe Jr., of Albuquerque, Michael Joe of Phoenix; sisters Darlene Tullie, Shirley Joe, Charlene Johnson, all of Phoenix, Arlene Joe of Tempe, Ariz., Elaine Joe of St. Michaels and three grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by her mother Lucille Mae Joe; brothers Leslie Joe , Albert Joe of St. Michaels; sister Gloria Nelson.

Pallbearers will be Travis Johnson, Tom Joe Jr., Daniel McLevain and Ryan Chischilly.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Ernest Greene

ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. – Services for Ernest Greene, 88, will be at 10 a.m., today, Aug. 25 at St. Michaels Catholic Church.

Greene died Aug. 19, 2007 in Gallup. He was born Feb. 16, 1919 in New Mexico. He worked for many years as a longshoreman at San Pedro, Calif.

Survivors include his wife Socorro Montoya Greene of St. Michaels; sons Michael Ernest Green, Shayne Greene, Dean Alan Greene, all of St. Michaels; brother Arthur Greene of Santa Fe.

He was preceded in death by his parents John B. Greene, Sr., and Juanita Sanchez Greene; brothers John Greene, Jr., and James Greene.


John Spencer

HOUCK, Ariz. – Services for John Spencer, 88, will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2007 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Houck. Fr. Cormac Antram will officiate. Burial will follow in the Houck Community Cemetery.

Spencer died Aug. 23, 2007 in Gallup. He was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Pine Springs, Ariz. into the Salt Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Spencer was an Army veteran and worked as a railroad worker, grazing chapter official for the Oaksprings/Pine Springs Chapter, he was a silversmith and a lifelong rancher.

Survivors include his wife Mary Chee Spencer of Houck; sons Felix Spencer of Farmington, Richard Spencer of Mesa Ariz., Herman Spencer of Sanders, Ariz., Albert Spencer of Phoenix; daughters Margaret Smith, Judy Begay, both of Houck, Rena Castillo, Lorene Spencer, both of Window Rock; 34 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son Lorenzo Spencer.

Pallbearers will be Felix Spencer, Jr., Loren Spencer, Michael Spencer, Phil John Spencer, Robbie Hubbell, and Faron Yazzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Robert and Margaret Smith residence for a reception after services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Linda Yazzie

GALLUP —Funeral services for Linda Sue Yazzie, 40, will be announced at a later date.

Yazzie died Aug. 24, 2007 in Gallup. She was born January 12, 1967.

Family will receive relatives and friends at 5 p.m Sunday, Aug. 26 at the Churchrock Chapter House.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
