Dollie Yazzie
TOYEI, Ariz. Funeral services for Dollie Lee Yazzie, 71,
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center, 601 Susan Ave. President DuWaine
Boone will officiate. Burial will follow on family land in Blue
Canyon, Ariz.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 31 at Rollie
Mortuary Chapel.
Yazzie died Aug. 25, 2007 in Lakewood, Wash. She was born Nov.
18, 1935 in Spider Rock Canyon DeChelly into the Water Edge People
Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Yazzie received her Bachelors and Masters degrees
from Arizona State University and was honored by as Alumni
of the Year. She retired from teaching in 2004 after 46
years of service in different areas of the Navajo Reservation.
Yazzie taught at Tuba City Elementary School, Chinle Elementary,
Rough Rock Deminstration School, Dilkon Boarding School, Tohatchi
Boarding School, and Tohatchi Elementary School, where she was
last employed. After retirement, she enjoyed recording Navajo
traditional music. At the time of her death, she was recording
her second CD. She enjoyed time spent with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Yazzie of Toyei; son,
Derrick J. Yazzie of Brimhall; daughters, Jacqueline D. Henry
of Naschitti and Daphne J. Etsitty of Toyei; nine grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Yazzie was preceded in death by her parents Peter Hubbell Lee
and Zonnie Mae Lee; and daughter, Donna Yazzie.
Pallbearers will be Derrick J. Yazzie, Ramone Yazzie, Delbert
Nelson, Virgil Kirk, Jr., Donavan Henry, and Bobby Etsitty.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Brian Piaso
PREWITT Funeral services for Brian Piaso, 34, will be
at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at Compassion Mortuary. Louie Desiderio will
officiate. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.
Piaso died Aug. 27, 2007 in Santa Fe. He was born April 18, 1973
in Crownpoint.
Survivors include his parents, Gladys Long Charley of Prewitt
and Bobby Piaso of Tohajiilee; stepfather, Larry Charley of Mariano
Lake; brothers, Laramie Charley of Grants and Jeremy Charley of
Prewitt; sisters, Lucynda Charley of Tesuque and Lacey Charley
of Grants; grandparents, Sam Long and Hannah D. Long of Prewitt.
Pallbearers will be Laramie K. Charley, Jeremy K. Charley, Tarance
F. Long, Clarence Long, and Clareton Long.
Marcus Smith
TWIN LAKES Funeral services for Marcus E. Smith , 33,
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Free Trinity Church in
Tohlakai. Rev. Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will follow
in Twin Lakes.
Smith died Aug. 29, 2007 in Gallup. He was born January 18, 1974
in Gallup into the Mexican People Clan for the One Who Walks Around
People Clan.
Smith attended Colorado College for two years and UNM for one
year. He worked for Indian Jewelers Supply Co. and Thunderbird
Supply Co.
Survivors include his daughter, Darien Jamie Smith; parents,
Pearl Smith and Ed Smith; brothers, Benjamin Jimenez and Jim Smith;
and sister, Serenity Smith.
Smith was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmie Hale
and Blanche Hale.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Jimenez, John Dolfin, Victor Long,
Arthur Dawes, Jr., Henry Hale, Jr., and Leron Sleuth.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Twin Lakes Chapter
House after services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
