Mr. June Maria

PINE HILL — Funeral Services for Mr. June Maria, 95, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Pine Hill Church of God. Anthony Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in private family plot in Pine Hill. Private family visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 11 at Rollie Mortuary.

Maria died Dec. 6, 2007 in Zuni. He was born March 2, 1912 in rural Ramah into the Apache People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Maria was a rancher, bus driver, custodian, farmer, railroad worker and sawmill worker.

Survivors include his sons, Cecil Maria, Timmy Maria; daughters, Sadie Maria, Bernice Maria, Frances Riedman, Mable Hernandez, Sarah Riga, Evelynne Maria, Ruthann Maria, Marcella Beartusk, Monique Marshall; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Maria was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Coho Maria; three grandsons; one great-grandson; brothers, Tom Kee Maria, Dan Maria Antonio, Kee Yazzie Maria.

Pallbearers will be Victor Castillo, Timothy Maria, Kevin Marshall, John Michael Gombeda, Robinson Coho, Keith Henio.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Sand Mountain Church of God, Pinehill after services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Irene Kee

CRYSTAL — Graveside services for Irene Nez Kee, 85, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 . Pastor Raymond Mullahon will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Crystal.

Kee died Dec. 8, 2007 in Crystal. She was born Sept. 28, 1922 in Crystal into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Edge Water People Clan.

She was a homemaker and rug weaver. She enjoyed nature, horseback riding, wool spinning, carving and being with family and grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, Rodger Kee, Raymond Kee, Jerry Kee, all of Crystal; daughters, Lillie Tsosie of Crystal, Lorraine L. Kee of Cedar City, Utah; sister, Mary Moore of Crystal; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Kee was preceded in death by her husband, John Kee Sr.; mother, Desbah Nez; father, Tabaha Nez; sons, John Kee Jr., Kenneth Kee, Benjamin Kee; daughters, Kathrine Kee, Charlene Kee.

Pallbearers will be Edison Tsosie S. Jr., Rodger Kee, Raymond Kee, Erickson Tsosie, Larson Moore, Douglas Mullahon.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Julia Matt

SANDERS — Funeral Services for Julia Yazzie Matt, 86, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at St. Johns Evangelist Church, Houck. Fr. Cormac Antram, OFM and Fr. Berard Doeger will officiate. Private disposition will be in Cedar Point, Ariz. Visitation will be 6 p.m. today, Dec. 11. A rosary will be recited at Rollie Mortuary.

Matt died Dec. 8, 2007 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 8, 1921 in Lupton into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

She was a homemaker and helped raise many of her grandchildren. She enjoyed weaving and listening to the radio.

Survivors include sons, Roger Matt of Cedar Point, Ariz., Johnny Matt of Querino Canyon, Ariz.; daughters, Tillie Matt, Marcella Barker of Sanders; sister, Lucy Yazzie of Lupton; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Matt was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Charley Matt; brother, Jack Smith; sisters, Julie Maire Lasiloo, Bessie Lucio; sons, Harry Matt, Raymond Smith, Alonzo Smith; two infant sons.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hanagan, Samson Spencer, Michael Smith, Chris Smith, Jeffrey Lucio, Shawn Baldwin.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter House following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Brian Brown

PHOENIX — Services for Brian Colen Brown, 25, will be 10 a.m., today, Dec. 11 at the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day of Saints Church in Many Farms. Burial will be in the family plot in Chinle. Visitation and a rosary will be at the LDS Church at 10 a.m., today, Dec. 11.

Brown died in Phoenix. He was born Jan. 9, 1982 in Fort Defiance into the Red Running Into Water People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Brown attended Chinle High School, Navajo Community College, Arizona Automotive Tech. He worked in the Summer Youth program, Post Mailroom in Wiesbaden Germany, Construction, Welding, Painting, construction, and was a waiter at Holiday Inn in Chinle. He also did landscaping.

Survivors include daughter, Kaylauna Brianna Brown; parents, Verdenas Begay, Edward Whitesinger Jr.; brothers, Kevin Brown, Cameron Begay, Josiah Whitesinger; sisters, Adrienne Brown, Andrea Brown, Clarissa Begay, Caitlyn Whitesinger; grandparents, Irene Brown, Virgil Brown, Edward Whitesinger Sr.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hosteen Brown, Jonathan Dalton, Dempsey Deswood, Ellison Whitesinger, Joshua Charley, Zachariah Whitesinger.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Catholic Hall for reception after the services.


Catherine Manning

ORANGE, Conn. — Funeral services for Catherine Manning (Heer), 68, were 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Church of Assisi Church in Torrington, Conn. Burial followed in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.

Manning died Sept. 26, 2007. She was born July, 20, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Manning was a public health nurse and held masters degrees from UConn and the Yale School of Nursing and Public Health. She was a nurse at GIMC from 2005-2007. She was a teacher and world traveler and loved living abroad. She had a love of classical music, nature and family. She loved to exercise and walk.

Survivors include her sons, John Heer III of Satellite Beach, Fla., Erik Heer of Charlotte, NC.; daughters, Ingrid Sellas of Orange,Conn., Kirsten Heer of East Haven, Conn., Katherine Heer of Phillips, Maine, Margaret Ward of Torrington; brother, Philip Feldsine; sister, Anne Walsh of Poughkeepsie; 12 grandchildren.

Manning was preceded in death by husband, John Heer; brother, John Feldsine; parents, John and Margaret (Dowe) Feldsine.


Paula Lake

GALLUP — Services are pending for Paula Earnrstine Lake, 67.

Lake died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 in Gallup. She was born March 27, 1940 in Dallas.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Ruth Tsosie

SANDERS — Services are pending for Ruth Lee Tsosie, 78.

Tsosie died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 in Gallup. She was born May 30, 1929 in Manuelito, N.M.
