Carolyn House

OAKSPRINGS — Services for Carolyn Taliman House, 74, were Feb. 2 at St. Michaels Catholic Church.

House died Jan. 29 in Gallup. She was born Sept. 7, 1933 in Fort Defiance into the Towering House People Clan for the Honey Comb People Clan.

House attended St. Michaels Catholic Church and Fort Wingate vocational school. She was employed with Oaksprings Chapter House, Navajo Times and she was a translator. She was a farmer and enjoyed her livestock, traveling and gardening. Survivors include her husband, John Murray House; sons, John House, Gordon House, Wayne House and Darrell House; daughters, Donna House, Glenda House, Carrie House and Ginger House-Valdez; brother, Francis Taliman; sister, Henrietta Lynch.

House was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie N. and Henry Taliman, Sr.; son, Conrad Glen House; brother, Henry Taliman, Sr.

Pallbearers were Wayne House, Darrell House, Sr., Joe Valdez, Murray House, Jeremy House and Darrell House, Jr.

Reception was held at Oaksprings Chapter House.

Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.


Louise McCurtain

CHINLE — Services for Louise Alice McCurtain, 63, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 at Chinle Catholic Church. Father Blaine will officiate. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Black Mountain, Ariz.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services. A rosary will be recited today, at 5 p.m., Feb. 7 at Maries Smiley's residence in Cottonwood, Ariz.

McCurtain died Feb. 2 in Chinle. She was born Sept. 20, 1943 in Ganado into the Tangle People Clan for Jemez People Clan.

McCurtain graduated from Snowflake High School in 1963 and graduated from UNM-Albuquerque with a bachelor degree. She was a teacher in various places for 30 years. Her hobbies included rugweaving, basketball coaching, sash belt and pottery making.

Survivors include son, Leland McCurtain; mother, Susie Begay; brother, Larry Gene Begay; sisters, Genevieve Begay, Julie Begay, Bernita Begay and Juanita Martinez.

McCurtain was preceded in death by her son, Melvin McCurtain; her father, Eugene Begay; her sister, Virginia Begay.

Pallbearers will be Larry Begay, Michael, Eugene, John Charley, Marlon Begay and Malcolm Jose.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Randolph Shorty, Sr.

THOREAU — Services for Randolph Tom Shorty, Sr., 48, will be 10 a.m., today, Feb. 7 at First Baptist Church in Thoreau. Reverend Glenn Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at Thoreau Community Cemetery.

Shorty was born June 15, 1958.

Shorty graduated from Thoreau High School and self-employed as a silversmith. He was a cross country runner in Thoreau and Haskell, Kan.

Survivors include wife, Pearl Ration of Thoreau; sons, Randolph T, Shorty, Jr., Timothy Ration and Adam L. Shorty, all of Thoreau; daughters, Kesha L. Shorty and Nizhoni Shorty, all of Thoreau; mother, Ruth A. Largo of Farmington; sisters, Rebecca Largo and Roberta Marsh; two grandchildren.

Shorty was preceded in death by son, Isaac T. Shorty; brothers, Matthew and Robert T. Shorty, Jr.; sister, Regina R., and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Jake Shorty, Mike Sloan, Jeremy Benally, Homer Endito, Jr., Adam Shorty and Calvin Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Chapter House after services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
