Tuba City man arrested following stabbing

SHIPROCK— A 59-year old Red Mesa man was found dead outside a Shiprock home early Sunday morning.

Watson Slim was found lying outside of a housing area around 6:57 a.m. by resident Julia Johnson. According to the report, Johnson observed Slim outside on the ground and called the Shiprock Police Department.

Police officials, along with EMS and fire and rescue responded, and Slim was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Attempts were made to resuscitate Slim, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Slim had been reported missing by his wife days earlier.


Man stabbed in fight
KAYENTA — An 18-year-old Tuba City man is in custody after stabbing a 37-year old Dennehotso man several times during a domestic dispute.

On Jan. 28, Evan Bitsinnie was arrested for stabbing Anthony Cly after Cly returned home intoxicated. According to the police report, Cly would not calm down and began verbally harassing women in the household. A fist fight then occurred between Bitsinnie and Cly, when Bitsinnie took out a knife and stabbed Cly several times in the back, chest, and arms.

Cly was transported to the PHS Clinic in Kayenta, where he was stabilized and flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for further treatment.

Criminal Investigations is still investigating the case.


Money stolen from chapter
JEDDITO — The Jeddito Chapter House was robbed of $3,000 after a cash box filled with personal checks and currency was taken from the office.

Dilkon police received notice of the robbery on January 24 around 12:20 p.m., shortly after the incident occurred. According to the police report, Jeddito residents Jason Benally, 24, and Calbert Pete, 23, who were employed by the chapter doing labor work, are the two primary suspects.

The report stated that there was no forced entry by Benally and Pete, who entered the office from a unlocked door that was open for an OnSat technician. When the office assistant returned to her desk, the box was gone.

Benally and Pete were reported going south toward Holbrook in a Ford truck with three other occupants.

Police officials are still investigating the case.
