Emerson Yazzie Jr.

VANDERWAGEN — Services for Emerson Yazzie Jr., 21, will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Pine Tree Mission in Vanderwagen. Pastor Virgil Chee will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Tree Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 26 from 3-5 p.m., at Cope Memorial Chapel and a wake will be 6 p.m., Monday at 804 Draco in Gamerco.

Yazzie died Feb. 22 in Vanderwagen. He was born Sept. 5, 1985 in Gallup into the Bitter Water People Clan and for the Turtle Deer Clan of the Seneca.

Yazzie was a resident of Vanderwagen. He was an artist and attended high school in Santa Fe.

Survivors include his daughter, Valencia Jake of Gallup; parents, Marcella Bitsie of Gamerco and Emerson Yazzie Sr., of Vanderwagen; brothers, Edmund Bitsie of Gamerco, Robert Bitsie of Vanderwagen, Leanderson Yazzie and Irvinson Yazzie, both of Crestview, N.M., Elrey Yazzie of Zuni; grandparents, Helen Yazzie of Vanderwagen and Richard Bitsie Sr.of Mexican Springs.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his grandmother, Vivian Bitsie, and his grandfather, Andrew Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Herbert Bitsie, Eugene Blueeyes, Antonio Arias, Randy Yazzie, Bernie Tsosie and Anderson Yazzie.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Clarissa Thompson

1000 OAKS, Calif. — Services for Clarissa Thompson, 58, were in 1000 Oaks, Calif. Private disposition was in California.

Thompson died Feb. 7 in 1000 Oaks, Calif. She was born Oct. 1949 in Rehoboth into the Folding Arms People Clan for the Sleeping Rock People Clan.

Thompson attended High School in Ignacio, Colo. Thompson was employed with Los Angeles County Hospital and lived in Los Angeles for 39 years.

Survivors include her son, Michael Thompson; daughters, Jackie Thompson, Dutches and Jacee Thompson; brothers, Franklin Thompson and Hardy Thompson; sisters, Shirley, Rose and Joann Thompson and Emma Masc, all of Gallup, Charlene Cook of Albuquerque.

Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Thompson Sr. and Sarah Thompson; brothers, Philip Thompson Jr. and Patrick Thompson; sister, Charlotte Thompson.


Alonzo Bradley

RED ROCK, N.M. — Services for Alonzo Tyre Bradley, 0, will be announced at a later date.

Bradley died Jan. 21 in Red Rock. He was born Oct. 2, 2006 in Gallup into the Towering House People Clan for the Black Streak of Forest People Clan.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Malcolm Tsosie

GANADO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Malcolm David Tsosie, 49, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Ganado Presbyterian Church. Pastor Emory Long will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, preceding the funeral service. Burial will be at the Ganado Community Cemetery.

Tsosie died Thursday, Feb 22, in Ganado. He was born Feb. 5, 1958 in Goulding, Utah into the Honeycomb Rock People clan and for the One Who Walks Around People clan.

Tsosie was an automobile mechanic.

Tsosie is survived by his daughters, Neomie Tsosie and Carissa Tsosie, both of Flagstaff; parents, Louise Tsosie of Ganado and Harry Tsosie of Farmington, N.M.; brother, Michael Tsosie of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters, Debbie Meek of Rapid City, Deborah Lincoln of Tucson, Deanna Tsosie of Bethel, Ark.

Tsosie was preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Tsosie.

Pallbearers will be Travis Lincoln, Tim Meek, Jack Tsosie, Stanley Hubbard, David Hubbard and Will Riggs.

The family will receive relatives and friends at All Saints (Catholic Church) Hall.


Luke Barney

MEXICAN SPRINGS, N.M. — Funeral services for Luke Valentine Barney, 97, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Ft. Defiance, Ariz. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the services. A Rosary will be recitedat St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tohatchi, N.M. Burial will be on a traditional family area at Asaayi.

Barney died Thursday, Feb. 22, in Gallup. He was born on March 15, 1909 in Mexican Springs, N.M. into the Salt People clan and for the Near the Water People clan.

Barney attended Phoenix Indian School. He worked as a rancher, farmer and carpenter throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served as the first president of the Mexican Springs Chapter. He continued to serve in various official capacities and voluteered in projects in the Mexican Springs and Tohatchi chapters.

Barney is survived by his wife, Danabah Barney, 14 children, 50 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.

Barney was preceded in death by one brother, two sons, one daughter, one grandson and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Vincent Arthur, Duane Barney, Kirt Frejo, Jeremy Hale, Kevin Redhair and Karletts Grayhair.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Dominic's Hall following services.


Ned Johnson

NAVAJO, N.M. — Funeral services are pending for Ned K. Johnson, 67.

Johnson died Friday, Feb. 23, in Chinle. He was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Mariano Lake, N.M.

A family meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the Mexican Springs Chapter House.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
