Rose Ann Bilagody

SHIPROCK — Funeral services for Rose Ann Bilagody, 43, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Shiprock. Father Dan will officiate. Burial will be in the Shiprock Community Cemetery.

Bilagody died Thursday, July 15, 2007 in Shiprock. She was born February 15, 1964 in Shiprock, into the Red Running into the Water Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Survivors include her husband, Lauritz H. Bilagody; sons Harry I. Bilagody and Kyle L. Bilagody; daughters Corianne M. Bilagody and Michelle L. Bilagody; brothers Don J. Lee, Joe Lee, Tom Lee and David Lee; sister Lillian Lee; and one grandchild.

Bilagody is preceded in death by her parents John and Mary (Bekis) Lee.

Pallbeareres will be Harry I. Bilagody, Joe Lee, Melton Hubbard, Stanley Hubbard, and Leland Yazzie.

A reception will be held at the Hogback Chapter House after the graveside services, beginning at 1 p.m.

Desert View Funeral Home of Shiprock is in charge of arrangements.


Mary Smith

LUKACHUKAI — Funeral services for Mary Hickman Smith, 76, will be at 10 a.m. today, July 9 at the St. Isabel Mission in Lukachukai, Father Ken Roy will officiate. Burial will follow on the family plot in Lukachukai.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Smith died July 4, 2007 in Farmington. She was born December 22, 1930 in Lukachukai into the Red House Clan for the Red Running into the Water Clan.

Smith retired from Diné College after 25 years of services. She was a Native American Church member and practiced as a herbal medicine women. Smith was caring and supportive. She enjoyed bead work, weaving, and making children clothes.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Smith, Sr. of Lukachukai; sons, Herbert Smith, Sr. of Kirtland and John C. Smith, Jr. of Lukachukai; daughters, Mary D. Begay and Rose A. Nez both of Lukachukai, Joanne John and Henrietta Shields both of Farmington; brothers, Robert Hickman of Tsaile and Daniel Hickman of Lukachukai; sisters, Mary Joe, Helen Nez, Marie Begay, and Sadie Begay all of Lukachukai; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alex Begay, Jaren Begay, Edison Yazzie, Jr., Nada Brown, Jerdarryl Shields, and Davin Yazzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Lukachukai Chapter House.

Silver Creek is in charge of arrangements.


Joe Garcia

GRANTS — Services for Joe A. Garcia, 79, will be announced at a later date.

Garcia died July 8, 2007 in Albuquerque. He was born September 10, 1927 in Arboles, Colo.


Loula Walters

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Loula Elizabeth Walters, 67, will be announced at a later date.

Walters died July 7, 2007 in Gallup. She was born April 5, 1940 in Naschitti into the Tangle Clan for the Saline Water Clan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at Rollie Mortuary.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
