Scotty Begay, Sr.
GALLUP Funeral services for Scotty N.
Begay, Sr., 92, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Cope Memorial
Chapel. Private disposition will follow in Sanostee.
Visitation will be prior to services.
Begay, Sr. died July 19, 2007 in Gallup. He was born August 15,
1914 in Sanostee into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Towering
House People Clan.
Begay, Sr. attended Phoenix Indian School, Haskell Indian College,
Phoenix Indian Junior College, UNM, and Chicago School of Criminology.
He enlisted in 1942 and waw accepted into flight school in 1943,and
served in the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific during World
War II. Begay, Sr. served as a law clerk and interpreter for the
Office of the Solicitor of the Department of Interior. He held
several positions with the Navajo and Hopi Tribal Agencies and
later became a practitioner of law with the N.N. courts. Begay,
Sr. was a gourd dancer and a member of the Gourd Society. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting, and spending time family.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta B. Begay; sons, Scotty N.
Begay, Jr.; daughters, Charlene Begay, Shirley Chato, and Darlene
Littlefoot; sister, Louise Johnson; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Begay, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Nasbah N. Begay
and Hosteen Daaghii Begay; seven brothers; and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Neal Begay, Justin Begay, Scott Hill, Gary
John, Victor Begay, and Derrick Ortiz.
A reception will be at Louise Johnson's residence in Sanostee
following the services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Paul Rivera
GRANTS Funeral Mass for Paul R. Rivera,
62, will be at 10 am. Tuesday, July 24 at St. Teresa of Avila
Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Grants Memorial Park. Father
Alberto Avella will officiate.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, July 23 at St. Teresa
of Avila Catholic Church.
Rivera was died July 14 in Grants. He was born January 12, 1945
in Las Vegas, NM.
Rivera graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas. He loved
being with his children, singing, gardening, and being in the
mountains.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Mary Rivera of Grants; son Vincent
Rivera of Albuquerque; daughters, Paulette Lackey of Grants and
Christie Baca of San Mateo; brothers, Willie Rivera of Grants,
Arthur Rivera, Tony Rivera, both of El Pueblo, NM,; sisters, Alice
Griego of Grants, Gloria Lopez of Albuquerque, Barbara Aguilar
of Grants, and Mary Bustos of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren.
Rivera was preceded in death by his parents, Gasper Rivera And
Antonia Oritz Rivera; brother Manuel Rivera; and sister, Josie
Chavez.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Baca, Raymond Marez, Orlando Marez,
Michael Chavez, Miguel Chavez, and Aaron Silva.
Ila Taylor-Wells
GRANTS Funeral services for Ila Taylor-Wells,
91, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Central Baptist Church.
Pastor Lonnie Jordan will officiate. Burial will follow at Grants
Memorial Park.
Taylor-Wells died July 19, 2007 in Grants. She was born July 18,
1916 in Oklahoma.
Taylor-Wells and her first husband owned Handy-Andy Markets in
Grants for many years.
Survivors include her sons, Jay Taylor of Grants and Larry J.
Taylor of Washington; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Taylor-Wells was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew
W. Taylor; second husband, Bob Wells; parents, Charles Patton
and Ida Patton; brothers, Carl Patton and Pat Patton; and sister,
Juanita Patton.
Pallbearers will be Ray Bennett, Leon Hawkins, Gary Whittington,
Ed Harry, Bill Barnes, and Bud Rieck.
Evangelist Frank Lee, Sr.
TOHATCHI Services for Evangelist Frank
Harvey Lee, Sr., 84, will be announced at a later date.
Lee, Sr. died July 21, 2007 in Shiprock. He was born May 16, 1923
in Cove, Ariz. into the Tangle People Clan for the Red Running
into the Water People Clan.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
