Rebecca Mendez

LOS ANGELES — Funeral services for Rebecca "Becky" Mendez, 77, were recently held.

Mendez died July 22, 2007 in Los Angeles. She was born January 20, 1930 in Madrid, NM.

Mendez graduated from Gallup High School. She worked for Standard Finance Company. Mendez and her husband were diehard L.A. Dodger, L.A. Laker and U.S.C. Trojan fans. She enjoyed playing dominos.

Survivors include her husband Jesus Mendez; son, Jesus "Chuy" Mendez, Jr.; daughter, Maureen Vega; sisters, Micaela Rodriguez of La Habra, Calif., Mary Morales of Albuquerque; brother, Apolonio Acosta of Albuquerque, Paulino Acosta of Gallup, and Manuel J. Rodriguez of Gallup; and seven grandchildren.

Mendez was preceded in death by her parents, Paulino Acosta, Sr. and Maura Acosta; sisters, Dolores Trujillo and Trinidad Acosta; brothers, Jesus Acosta and Jose Acosta.

Pallbearers were Daniel Mendez, Danny Rodriguez, Manuel J. Rodriguez, Chuy Mendez, III, Peter Mendez, Mico Vega, A.J. Morales, Ruben Carillo, and Michael Rodriguez.


Roy Snyder, Sr.

MARIANO LAKE — Graveside services for Roy Syder, Sr., 78, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 at Crownpoint Cemetery. Jones Dehiya will officiate.

Snyder, Sr. died July 25, 2007 in Mariano Lake. He was born June 15, 1929 in Mariano Lake into the Meadow People Clan for the Red Running into the Water People Clan.

Snyder, Sr. attended Crownpoint Boarding School. He worked for the Railroad for 21 years. Snyder, Sr., enjoyed western movies, WWF wrestling, horses, and fixing his pick-up. He was a comedian, storyteller, and full of life.

Survivors include his sons, Benjamin Snyder of Chinle, Jerome Snyder and Roy Snyder, Jr., both of Mariano Lake, Jesse Snyder, Charley Snyder, Preston Snyder of Salt Lake City; Louise Clah of Mariano Lake; brothers, Bennie Snyder of Santa Ana, Calif., Jimmie Snyder of Mariano Lake, and Jones Begay of Mariano Lake; sisters, Eleanor Snyder of Gallup and Julia Begay of Mariano; and 11 grandchildren.

Snyder was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dolly Snyder; brothers, Tony Snyder and Ben Tso Begay; sisters, Shelia Snyder, Shirley Snyder, Nellie Snyder Aqwiak, and Nora Snyder Paige.

Pallbearers will be Roy Snyder, Jr., Jerome Snyder, Preston Snyder, Charley Snyder, Jesse Snyder, and Ernest Paige.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Paul Church following services.


Joseph Price

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Joseph Frederick Price, 89, will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Father Ron Walters will officiate.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today, August 31 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Price died July 28, 2007 in Fort Defiance. He was born June 7, 1918 in Chinle into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Edge Water People Cla.

Price attended Fort Wingate Vocational School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He became a Navajo Code Talker and received a Congressional Medal of Honor for his valiant effort. Price was one of the greatest hoop dancers in the history of the Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial. He worked to combat the tuberculosis epidemic of themid-1900s on the Navajo Reservation. He enjoyed painting, carpentry, watching wrestling, and football and crafted Kachina-style dolls.

Survivors include his sons, Herman Price, Melvin Price, Lionel Price all of Fort Defiance, Stanley Price of Laveen, Ariz. and David Price of Los Lunas; daughters, Arlene Hickson, Kathleen Arviso, and Vangie Price all of Fort Defiance; 27 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

Price was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marguerite Price; wife, Irene Price; son, Manuel Price; and daughters, Annie Francisco and Fannie Bolin; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Price, David Price, Melvin Price, Lyman Price, Alden Davidson, Sheldon Delgai, Marcus Monenerkit, and Brian Hickson.

The family will receive family and friends at St. Dominic Parish Hall in Fort Defiance following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Paul Geathers, II

TULARE, Calif. — Services for Paul H. Geathers, II, 29, will be announced at a later date.

Geathers, II died July 27, 2007 in Chaney, Wash. He was born May 18, 1978 in Gallup into the Many Hogans People Clan for the African American People.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Anna Holyan

COYOTE CANYON — Services for Anna M. Holyan, 81, will be announced at a later date.

A viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, August 2 at Rollie Mortuary.

Holyan died July 30, 2007 in Coyote Canyon. She was born December 21, 1925 in Toyee Spring, N.M. into the Zuni People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Louise S. Neswood

IYANBITO — Services for Louise S. Neswood, 71, will be announced at a later date.

Neswood died July 30, 2007 in Gallup. She was born March 15, 1936 in Iyanbito.

A family gathering will be at 5 p.m., today, July 31 at Louise Neswood residence and at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 at the Iyanbito Chapter.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
