Mary Chapo

TOHAJIILEE — Funeral services for Mary Chapo, 94, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at Joe Sandoval's Church. Burial will follow in Tohajiilee Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to services.

Chapo died June 5 in Albuquerque. She was born December 15, 1912 in Albuquerque into the Water Edge Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Benny Chapo and Emerson Chapo both of Tohajiilee; daughters, Lita Johnson of Teec Nos Pos, Lolita Platero and Betty Platero both of Tohajiilee.

Chapo was preceded in death by her husband, George Chapo; sons, Raymond Chapo, James Chapo, and Kee Chapo; parents, Monjillo and Bessie Chavez; brother, Sam Chavez; and sisters, Helen C. Platero and Ella Mae Swafford.

Pallbearers will be family members.

A reception will be at Joe Sandoval's Church following services.


Dulce Jaure

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Dulce Trujillo Jaure, 75, will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 11 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Father Alberto Avella will officiate. Burial will follow in Grants Memorial Park.

Dulce died June 6, in Grants. She was born July 19, 1931 in San Mateo.

Dulce was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Pablo Jaure of Grants; sons, Jerry Jaure of Grants, Tim Jaure of Las Vegas, Walter Jaure of Grants, Johnny Jaure of Milan, Lizardo Jaure of Grants, Silviano Jaure of Grants, Dennis Chavez of Texas, Clifford Chavez of San Rafael, and Larry Chavez of Denver; daughters, Marlene Jaure of Grants, Barbara Jaure of Las Cruces, June Jaure of Grants, Mildred Prince of Grants, Rose Wingfield of Hobbs, and Christine Garcia of Laguna; brothers, David Trujillo of Grants and Greg Trujillo of Albuquerque; sisters, Frances Garcia of Grants and Annie Montano of Grants; 31 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Jaure was preceded in death by her sons, Daniel Jaure and Henry Chavez; daughters, Jeanette Jaure-Stahlecker and Vangie Wheller; parents, Lizardo Trujillo and Flora V. Trujillo; brothers, Mike Trujillo and Dennis Trujillo.

Pallbearers will be Randy James Martinez, Jacob Jaure, Michael D. Trujillo, Jacob Chavez, Sergio Rivera, Jr., and David Chavez.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Susie Skeet

DENVER, Colo. — Funeral services for Susie Skeet, 46, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Twin Buttes Nazarene Church. Pastor Jerry Tom will officiate. Burial will follow at 11 miles west of Gallup, on Cedar Bluff Road.

Skeet died June 2, in Gallup. She was born May 4, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. into the Bitter Water Clan for the Salt People Clan. She graduated from Gallup High School in 1981 and attended college in Austin, Texas, Amarillo, Texas, and Grants. She was a nursing assistant for many years then later became certified. Skeet enjoyed crocheting, puzzle making, writing poems, painting pictures, and playing poker.

Survivors include her son, Adam Skeets of Gallup; daughter, Adrienne Skeets of Seattle, Wash.; mother, Denise Skeets; brothers, Bennie Skeets of Coyote Canyon and Roger Skeets of Rocky Point, N.M.; sisters, Nina Jane Skeet, Marie Skeets, Christine S. John, Rosemary Joe, all of Rocky Point, Gracie Gatewood, Gloria Skeets, both of Gallup, and grandmother, Ahaynabah Spencer of Rocky Point.

Skeets is preceded in death by her father, Charlie Skeets.

Pallbearers will be Dominic Jake Gatewood, Claude R. Gatewood, Jr., Daniel John, Jack Joe, Claude R. Gatewood, Sr., and Roger Skeet.

A reception will be at the Manuelito Chapter House following services.

Clara Pooley

LOWER GREASEWOOD — Funeral services for Clara Loretta Pooley, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lower Greasewood. Burial will follow at the family plot.

Visitation will be one-half hour prior to services.

Pooley died June 5 in Gilbert. She was born December 24, 1918 in Lower Greasewood.

Pooley was a homemaker and made kachina dolls all her life. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1948 and has been an active member since.

Survivors include her sons, Raymond Pooley of Tuba City, Albert Pooley of Mesa, Ariz., George Pooley of Canada, BC, and LeRoy Pooley of Avondale, Ariz.; daughters, Grace Pooley of Gilbert, Ariz., Esther Standt of Holbrook, and Vivien Luikart of Provo, Utah; one brother; two sisters; 28 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Pooley is preceded in death by her husband, Emil Pooley; parents; and five brothers.


James Yazzie, Jr.

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for James Yazzie, Jr., 54, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance. Rev. Richard Red Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow at the family site.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Mission.

Yazzie, Jr. died June 5 in Cross Canyon, Ariz. He was born Aug. 19, 1952 in Fort Defiance into the Cliff Dwelling Clan for the Coyote Pass Clan.

Yazzie Jr. was employed with Water Works in Fort Defiance. He took care of his parents and did woodworking.

Survivors include his son, Jasper James Yazzie; daughters, Michelle Ann Yazzie, Melissa Yazzie, and Joanna Yazzie; parents, James Yazzie, Sr. and Gail Ruth Yazzie; brother, Wilford Lilly; sisters, Maybelle Kinlichee and Jane Yazzie; and 14 grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert Yazzie and Bah Yazzie, brothers, Johnson Yazzie and Jonah Yazzie; and sister, Judy Yazzie.
Pallbearers will be family members.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Good Shepherd Mission following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Phillip Nez

TWIN BUTTES, NM — Services for Phillip Nez, 101, will be announced at a later date.

Nez died June 6, 2007 in Gallup. He was born July 15, 1905 in Naschitti.

A family meeting will be at 5 p.m. today, June 8 at the Red Rock Chapter House.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
