Annie Mescal
GALLUP Funeral services for Annie Mae
Mescal, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at Cope Memorial
Chapel. Pastor William Overton will officiate. Burial will follow
on family land in Gallup.
Mescal died May 1 in Gallup. She was born October 6, 1922 in Gallup
into the Black Streak of Forest Clan for the Red Running into
the Water Clan.
Mescal enjoyed doing many crafts, such as rug weaving, gourds,
fans, staffs, and sewing. She was a member of the Native American
Church and was a sheepherder.
Survivors include her daughters, Susie James of Gallup, Judy Yazzie
of Gallup, Teresa Spencer of Gallup, Seta Lee of Churchrock, Esther
Charley of Gallup, Priscilla Lee of Churchrock, Pauline Mescale
of Gallup, and Rena Mescale of Gallup; sisters, Bessie Skeets
of Gallup, Louise Jim of Gallup, and Mary Jim Johnson of Gallup;
25 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and one great-great
grandchild.
Mescal was preceded in death by her parents, Navajo and Al'hknbah
Jim; sisters, Lucy Johnson, Alice Jim, and Mary Joe; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Johnathan Ray Mescale, Neill Begay, Deann
Skeet, October Wanda Mescale, Benson Begay, Darrell Skeets, Ray
Skeets, and Gilbert Skeets.
A reception will be at the Churchrock Chapter House following
the burial.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Martinez, 21, will be announced at a later date.
Martinez died May 2, in Pueblo. He was born February 24, 1986
in Fallbrook, Calif.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
