TOHATCHI Funeral services for Antoinette Marie Begay,
89, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at Saint Marys Catholic
Church. Deacon Sherman Manuelito and Father John Mittelstadt,
OFM, will officiate. Burial will be at Tohatchi Community Cemetery.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 at Saint Marys
Catholic Church.
Begay was born into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Water
Edge People Clan.
She attended Fort Wingate High School, Fort Lewis College and
received her Bachelors of Arts in elementary education with a
minor in home economics. Begay was a former employee at Springstead
Trading Post, former Bureau of Indian Affairs-operated Schools-Mexican
Springs Boarding School, Coyote Canyon Boarding School and Chuska
Boarding School. She was also a member of the Tohatchi Community
Chapter in Tohatchi.
Survivors include husband, Ned Begay of Tohatchi; son, Edwin
J. Begay of Tohatchi; daughter, Kathleen Yazzie of Kirtland.
Begay was preceded in death by her parents, Kee and Hazes Bah
Martin Dawzy.
Pallbearers will be Roy L. Yazzie Jr., Marvin G. Chavez, Scotty
Gruber, Trez Gruber, Wallace Dawes, Paul Dawes.
A reception and luncheon will be Monday, Oct. 22 at the Tohatchi
Community Chapter following the burial.
