Gavin Yazzie

SANTA FE — Services for Gavin Yazzie will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Church of the Incarnation, off Highway 528, 2309 Monterrey NE, in Rio Rancho. Burial will be at Torren-Tsinnajinnie family plot. A rosary will be recited 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at the Church of the Incarnation.

Yazzie was born May 5, 2005 in Santa Fe. He died Oct. 22, 2007 in Albuquerque into the Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

He was a strong little man with a love for life that became an inspiration for all who met him. He went on many adventures from camping in Dulce, to Northern Arizona to pow-wows in Arlee, Mont. and enjoying the snow in Glacier National Park. He enjoyed swimming in Flathead Lake and chilling on the couch with dad watching and cheering for the Boston Red Sox and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Survivors include parents, Benjamin Yazzie and Michelle Brown-Yazzie; brother, Kalan; grandparents, Anita Tsinnajinnie of Albuquerque, Gerald Brown of Polson, Mont., Martha (Tom) Yazzie of Fort Defiance, Emily Tsosie of Phoenix, Benny and Irene John of St. Michaels.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Buck Jones Yazzie, Isaac Tsosie, Leonard and Lola Tsinnajinnie, Tom and Dorothy Brown, Freddie and Betty (Tom) Yazzie.

A reception dinner will be at the Torreon Chapter House, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at Wells Fargo in the name of Gavin Yazzie c/o Annette Brown.


Sammy Lynn

MILAN — Services for Sammy D. Lynn Sr., 69, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at Compassion Mortuary. Pastor Tad Fish will officiate. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. today, Oct. 25 at Compassion Mortuary.

Lynn died Oct. 23, 2007 in Milan. He was born Oct. 28, 1937 in Grants.

Lynn graduated from Lockney High School in Lockney, Texas. He came to New Mexico and began working at the Anaconda Mill in the lab for two years and the Peabody Coal Mine for 13 years from which he retired. He was also the owner and operator of Lynn Tree Sales.

Survivors include wife, Neva Lynn of Milan; sons, Sammy Lynn Jr. of Milan, John Lynn of Grants; daughters, Leanna Lynn of Albuquerque, Janice K. Robinson of Milan; brothers, Bruce K. Lynn of Milan; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Lynn is preceded in death by parents, Milford D. Lynn, Alma Lynn; brother, John Lynn; sister, Mary Pearl Wilson; daughters, Cathy Lynn and Jancie Robinson.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Lynn, Mark Robinson, Bruce Lynn Jr., Neal Lynn, Mike Lynn, Chad Hullinger.


Eleanor Dawes

RED WATER POND, COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Eleanor Hood Dawes, 87, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m. today, Oct. 25 at Rollie Mortuary.

Dawes died Oct. 22, 2007 in Gallup. She was born July 16, 1920 in Pinedale into the Charcoal Streaked People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

She was a weaver and rancher that included training wild horses. She also enjoyed having her grandchildren around and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include sons, Arthur Dawes, Johnny Dawes, Tsosie Dawes, Wallace Dawes, Paul Dawes, Nelson Dawes, Roger Dawes, Edison Dawes, Kenneth Dawes; daughters, Annie Dawes, Anita Dawes, Barbara Navajo, Delores Thompson, Mary Williams, Louise Dawes, Wilhemina Marshall, Linda Dawes, Victoria Dawes; brother, Jack Hood of Springstead, N.M.; sisters, Velma Nakai, Beatrice Hood, Helen Jackson, Joann Hood, Phyllis Manuelito; 49 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Dawes was preceded in death by parents, Jennie and Dick Hood; grandparents, Robin and Bah Largo; husband, Harvey Dawes; brothers, Johnny Hood, James Hood, Melton Hood, Paul Hood; sisters, Jeanette Hood; two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Dawes, Nelson Dawes, Paul Dawes, Roger Dawes, Kenneth Dawes, Edison Dawes.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Coyote Canyon Chapter House following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Alice Pinkston

GRANTS — Services are pending for Alice Pinkston, 89, of Grants.

Pinkston died Oct. 23, 2007 in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 30, 1917 in Colorado.

She was the owner of the Pinkston Day and Night Market since 1957 in Milan.
