Ella Mark

CRYSTAL — Funeral services for Ella B. Mark, 93, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Assembly of God Church in Fort Defiance.

Pastor James Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow on the family plot in Crystal.

Mark died Sept. 8, 2007 in Fort Defiance. She was born Sept. 7, 1914 in Two Grey Hills into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Mud People Clan.

Mark enjoyed rug weaving, sewing, quilting, crocheting, walking, pinon picking, ranching, and beading. She also enjoyed collecting jewelry, cooking, being with family and sharing stories of her life.

Survivors include her sons, George Mark of Palo Alto, Calif.; daughters, Elrosa L. Wilson of Crystal, Rose M. Dahozy of Fort Defiance, Linda A. Mark of Crystal, Sarah M. Mark of Crystal, and Clara Chambers of Tucson; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mark was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Mark; sons, David Mark, Harry Mark, Peter Mark, Benny Mark, and Phillip Mark; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Larry R. Wilson, Jr., Riley Wilson, Justin R. Wilson, Sr.; Darren A. Tsosie, Jeremy C. Chambers, and Ryan S. Tso, Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Crystal Chapter House.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Irvin Benally, Sr.

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Irvin Tony Benally, Sr., 66, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tohatchi. Father Bob Ross, S.J. will officiate. Burial will follow at Naschitti Community Cemetery.

Benally, Sr. died Sept. 9, 2007 in Buffalo Springs. He was born April 5, 1941 in Naschitti into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Benally, Sr. was a medicine man and rancher. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren and participating in song and dances.

Survivors include his wife, Roselita Benally; sons, Lorenzo Benally, Hansel Benally, and Irvin Benally, Jr.; daughters, Darlene Mike, Alberta Wesley, Roberta Benally, and Berdie Benally; brothers, Alfred Johnson, Tully Johnson, Lee Johnson, and Eugene Johnson; sisters, Susie Johnson, Esther Johnson, Marcella Johnson; 29 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Benally was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Johnson; grandmother, Annie Benally; Betty Bigdoc and Alice Benally.

The family will receive relatives and friends seven miles North of Mustang Store in Tohatchi (Mile post 30.1 on Highway 491) after services.

Francis Blackgoat

FORT DEFIANCE — Graveside services for Francis Art Blackgoat, 75, will be at 10 a.m. on family land in Navajo, N.M.

Blackgoat was born Oct. 12, 1931 in Red Lake, Ariz. in the Hairy Ones/Weaver-Zia People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Blackgoat attended Fort Defiance Boarding School. He was a bus driver for Window Rock School District and retired from BIA Roads as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Blackgoat enjoyed fishing, attending and watching the Rodeo, and being with family and friends.

Survivors include his sons, Stafford S. Blackgoat and Nobert K. Lee; daughter, Angela Blackgoat; parent, Amito Blackgoat; sister, Annie Parker; and three grandchildren.

Blackgoat was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Blackgoat; son, Gerald Francisco; parents; and brother, Keeto Blackgoat.

Pallbearers will be family members.

The family will receive family and friends at the Martin’s residence in Navajo.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Robert Wartz

KEAMS CANYON — Funeral services for Robert John Wartz,54, will be held at 10 a.m. (D.S.T),Wednesday, Sept.12 at the Keams Canyon St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Father Clay will officiate. Burial will be in Jeddito Community Cemetery.

Wartz died Sept. 8, 2007 in Low Mountain, AZ. He was born July 4, 1953 in Keams Canyon, AZ. He was born into the Saline Water People for Salt People.

He attended Smoke Signal School, Many Farms High School, Intermountain Indian School, Roswell Technical School, and Crownpoint Institute of Technology. Wartz was a railroad worker as well as, a rancher and silversmith.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Wartz; sons, Randy Wartz, Kenny S. Wartz, and Robryan Wartz; parent, Tully Wartz; brothers, Albert Wartz, Thompson Wartz, Andrew Wartz, and Ken Wartz; sisters, Rose W. Tso, and Rena W. Begay; and 5 grandchildren

Wartz was preceded in death by his mother Louise Wartz and grandmother Sadie Tom.

Pallbearers will be Billy Y. Nez, Al Wartz, Thompson Wartz, Ken Wartz, Randy Wartz, and Kenny S. Wartz.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Wartz’s residences in Whippoorwill after services.

Angela McGee

PIERCE CITY, Mo. – Funeral Masss for Angela A. Vogt White McGee, 87, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pierce City, Mo. Viewing will be Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at 7:00 pm at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Graveside services and interment will follow immediately at Mount Calvary Cemetary in Monett, Mo.

Angela A. Vogt White McGee , 87, died on Sept. 6, 2007, in Truth or Consequences, N.M. She was born Sept, 29, 1919, to Robert and Rose Vogt in Monett, Missouri. After graduation from Monett High School she attended Monett Junior College, moved to Gallup and resided here until 2005, until she moved to Farmington, then to Monticello, N.M. She worked for the BIA and enjoyed crocheting and collecting antiques where she excelled in typing and shorthand, winning statewide competition first place trophies in both areas of expertise.

She resided in Gallup until 2005 before moving with her husband of 35 years, Ellis D. McGee,, to Farmington, New Mexico; due to health reasons she moved to Monticello, New Mexico, later that year.

Survivors include her husband Ellis and his son Robert McGee , and daughters D'Ann Waters and Jolene Roscoe of Farmington; sons : Ronald J. White of Monticello, NM; Gary G. White of Winnetka, Calif.; Michael R. White of Ennis, Mont.; and Gregory V. White of Hillsboro, Ore; sisters Selina Craig Monett, Mo. and Roberta Roberson of Lakewood, CA.; 16 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.


Sadie B. Tsosie

WHEATFIELDS — Funeral services for Sadie B. Tsosie, 89, will be announced at a later date.
Tsosie died Sept. 9, 2007 at the San Juan Manor, Farmington, NM. She was born March 1, 1918 at Upper Greasewood, Ariz.

Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Tim Harry

IYANBITO — Services for Tim Harry, 71, will be announced at a later date. Mr. Harry was born Sept. 24, 1935 in Perea, NM.

He died Sept. 9,2007 at the Red Rock Care Center.

A family meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Iyanbito Chapter Tuesday Sept. 11, 2007.

Shirley Norton-Zamarron

Tohatchi — Services for Shirley Jean Norton-Zamarron, 63, will be announced at a later date.

Norton-Zamarron died Sept. 9, 2007 in Albuquerque, N.M. She was born June 17, 1944 in Tohatchi, N.M. into the Folding Arms People for the Black Streak People.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
