Woman hit, killed on N.M. 602

By Leslie Wood

GALLUP — Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision Monday that killed a 53-year-old Gallup woman.
Deputy Police Chief John Allen, a spokeswoman for the Gallup Police Department, identified the victim as Colleen Silvers.

Silvers was found lying on the northbound shoulder of New Mexico Highway 602 near Park Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen said Silvers was struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene immediately following the impact.

Officials suspect alcohol contributed the fatal crash.

Anyone with information about the involved vehicle and driver, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (505) 722-6161.

Burglary

A Gallup man was arrested early this morning for breaking into a local fast-food restaurant.

Roger Pete was booked into the McKinley County Adult Detention Center after he was found inside the Church’s Chicken, 1205 E. Highway 66, at 2:15 a.m. Police were notified of the incident when a burglary alarm sounded. They found the restaurant’s drive-through window open and Pete inside.

Allen said Pete was arrested weeks ago in connection with a break-in at Leyba’s Auto. An undisclosed amount of cash and car keys were taken from that business.
