Man, 75, hit by train

GALLUP — A 75-year-old man remains in critical condition after he was struck by a train near 2824 E. Route 66 about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Edison Livingston, of Churchrock, was unconscious when he was flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Gallup Police officers who responded to the incident said Livingston had sustained severe injuries to the left side of his body, according to Sgt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo. At 11 a.m. today his condition was unstable, according to Erin Gibson, a nurse who works in the surgical intensive care unit at University Medical Center.

Livingston had been walking on the railway across from the Front Row Seat movie store when the approaching train’s conductor saw him and sounded the horn, according to Joe Faust, spokesman for Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad. Livingston was not at a crossing, Faust said, and did not respond to the train’s whistle.

Detective Andy Yearly of Gallup Police Department is investigating the incident.
