Steve Mike
GREASEWOOD, Ariz. Services for Steve
Mike, 51, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at the Greasewood Pentecostal
Church. The Rev. Edison Belin will officiate. Burial will be in
the family plot, Greasewood.
Mike died Aug. 1, 2008, in San Jose, Calif.
He was born July 31, 1956, in Oakland, Calif., into the Big Water
People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.
Mike lived in the Northern California bay area
all his life. He went to Milpitas High School and attended Foothill
College to study sheet metal work. His hobbies included fishing,
camping, barbequeing, and he loved to cook. Mike also did sliversmithing.
He worked for various construction all over the bay area.
Survivors include his mother, Minnie Mike of
Greasewood; brothers, Gerry Mike of Albuquerque, Leo Mike Jr.
of San Jose; sisters, Liza Rydberg of Chester, Calif., Althea
Mike of Red Bluff, Calif.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Leo
Mike Sr.; grandparents, Juan and Annie Mike, Lena Kinlicheenie.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Antonio Pena
GRANTS Funeral Mass for Antonio Tony
Pena, 99, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at the St. Teresa
of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park.
The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will
be recited 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at the St. Teresa of Avila
Catholic Church.
Pena died Aug. 1, 2008, in Grants. He was born
April 22, 1909, in San Mateo.
Pena was a life long resident of the area. He
was a rancher and farmer, served as a Municipal Judge for 10 years
and Justice of the Peace. He was a member of the Republican Party
and enjoyed traveling and was a champion pool player. Pena was
a member of the St. Teresa Catholic Church. He was one of the
first employees of Anaconda Mines and worked in the Mill for 32
years.
Survivors include his children, Gilbert Pena
of Raymore, Mo., Johnny Pena of Houston, Mela P. Gonzales of San
Antonio; stepdaughter, Georgia Parra of Grants; brother, Lalo
Salazar of Mesa; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Pena was preceded in death by his first wife,
Leo Pena; second wife, Florela Pena; parents, Abelico Pena, Manuelita
Ortega Pena; brothers, Pablo Pena, Abelicio Pena; sisters, Eufemia
Pena, Letecia Salazar.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Gonzales, Bert Pena,
Aaron Pena, Gordon Pena, Bryan Shipman, Jeff Roberts.

Joe Thompson Sr.
DEL MUERTO, Ariz. Funeral services for
Joe Thompson Sr., 54, will be at the Del Muerto Presbyterian Church.
Francis Draper will officiate. Burial will be in Del-Muerto Community
Cemetery.
Thompson died Aug. 3, 2008, in Kingman. He was born Jan. 15, 1954,
in Gamado, into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the One
Who Walks Around You People Clan.
Thompson went to school in Chinle and graduated
from Chinle High. In 1974, he was employed as a tour guide for
Thunder Bird Lodge for 15 years. He later was employed with ONEO
Headstart as a bus driver for 7 years. He began with a singing
group in Twin Trails Swinger. He took his group who consisted
of his children, nieces and nephews, to local schools teaching
Navajo Culture and song and dance. Thompson also had his own Southern
Drum group in Twin Trails which gave him the opportunity to travel
throughout the U.S. and Canada for Pow-Wow dancing. He was a performer
and entertainer, and performed at many school assemblies for headstart,
elementary, high school and college students. He was very involved
in his community, serving on several community and board memberships.
He and his wife were in the Foster Child Program. In his lifetime,
he has received many awards, trophies, honor unums and certificates
for all he did.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Thompson; sons,
Joe Thompson Jr. of Lukachukai, Keno Yazzie Thompson of Del Muerto;
daughters, Jonie Thompson of Phoenix, Joy Thompson of Phoenix,
Jolyn, Jolene Thompson of Del Muerto; brothers, Pete Thompson
of Phoenix, Samuel Thompson of Del Muerto; sisters, Alyce Joanson
of Del Muerto, Willie Roanhorse of Del Muerto, Ruth Jones of Del
Muerto, Shirley Watchman of Phoenix, Amy Thompson of Del Muerto,
Adele Yuth of Del Muerto; two grandchildren.
Thompson was preceded in death by his parents,
Ray and Adele Thompson; brothers, Fred Thompson, Harry Thompson.
The family will receive relatives and friends
at his residence, Del Muerto at 6 p.m., 1/4 North South of Presbyterian
Church.
