GALLUP — The new promotional coins the city produced cost about $6.75 per coin to produce. This included the design, material, and minting cost. A total of 500 were produced for a cost of about $3,375.

The coins feature the state seal on the back and a thunderbird on the front. It also has the new URL for the city’s Web site, which has a .gov extension instead of a the normal .com. The URL is not yet active, though.

“We don’t own it yet,” said City Manager Gerald Herrera.
Since the .gov extension is not available to the public, there’s no risk of cybersitting, which is an Internet practice where someone takes a domain name that might be favored by another individual or business in hopes of driving up the transfer price.

Herrera said that the city will probably have the URL pointed at the current city’s Web site within about six months.
