Man pleads guilty to child abuse Copyright © 2008 GALLUP Randy Begay, 40, who was arrested for allegedly battering a 3-month-old boy last week, waived his probable cause hearing Tuesday for the felony child abuse charge against him. Begay agreed to plead guilty to the charge when he goes to trial in exchange for a maximum three-year sentence. Also, as part of the agreement negotiated by Assistant District Attorney Jason Galbraith, Begay will become eligible for parole after 18 months if he completes a substance abuse course, according to the waiver signed by Begay. The swiftness with which Begay agreed to go to prison may have been influenced by his prior offenses, which include two charges of battery against a household member in March 2005 and October 2006. The 2006 battery was coupled with a charge that Begay violated a restraining order, according to court records. |
