Mary Charley
LUPTON Services
for Mary Jane Charley, 79, will be 10 a.m., Sept. 20, at St. Evangelist
in Houck. The Rev. Cormac Antram O.F.M., will officiate. Burial
will be the in family plot.
Charley died Sept. 16, 2008, in Flagstaff. She was born Sept.
20, 1928, in Two Wells, into the Black Streak Wood Forest People
Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.
Charley attended school
in Fort Defiance. She was also a member of the Catholic Church
in Lupton. Charley was a silversmith and rug weaver. She liked
to sew and do beadwork and loved to prepare meals and tend to
her livestock. Charley was a homemaker.
Survivors include her
husband, Tom Charley of Lupton; sons, Herbert Charley of Lupton,
Herman Charley of Lupton, Harold Charley of Lupton, Hamilton Charley
of Lupton; daughters, Jane Yazzie of Lupton, Rebecca Yazzie of
Mentmore, Marilyn Yazzie of Lupton, Janet Benally of Springerville,
Theresa Charley of Phoenix; brother, Pat Smth; sister, Emma C.
Burton; 38 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Charley was preceded in
death by his son, Norman Charley; parents, John and Alice Smith;
brother, Leroy Smith; sister, Betty Smith.
Pallbearers will be Henry
Yazzie, Olsen Yazzie, Fredrick Yazzie, Darrell Yazzie, Norman
Benally, Stanley Silversmith.
Rollie Mortuary is in
charge of arrangements.
Mattie Chavis
LUKACHUKAI Funeral
services for Mattie M. Chavis, 98, were 11 a.m., Friday, Sept.
19, at the Faith Mission Church 702 Mission St. Gallup. The Rev.
Allen George officiated. Burial was at Gallup City Cemetery.
Chavis died Sept. 15,
2008. She was born on May 15, 1910, in Lukachukai.
Chavis was a member of
the Faith Mission Church of Gallup, and was faithful to reading
her bible.
Survivors include her
daughter, Lavena Torres of Gallup; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Chavis was preceded in
death by her mother, Martha Notah; brother, Oliver Chavis; sister,
Mary N. Allen; one great-grandson
Pallbearers were Jeremy
Marcos Lujan, John Anthony Lloyd, David Carlos Gomez, Alexander
Michael Gomez, Antonio Yazzie, and Eric Blackwater.
Cope Memorial Chapel was
in charge of arrangements.
Sam Chischilly
OAK SPRINGS Services
for Sam Chischilly, 89, will be 10 a.m., Sept. 20, at St. Michaels
Catholic Church, St. Michaels. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, O.F.M.
will officiate.
Chischilly died Sept.
18, 2008, in Fort Defiance. He was born May 22, 1919, in St. Michaels,
into the Edge Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People
Clan.
Chischilly was born and
raised in Hunters Point, Ariz. He married the late Irene
Chischilly in Oak Springs, lived there all his life. He attended
Hunters Point Boarding School and was drafted into the Army
during WWII. After his military status he worked on the railroad,
Army Depot, other odd jobs and a rancher.
Survivors include his
sons, Leo Chischilly, Phil Chischilly, all of Oak Springs, James
Chischilly of Low Mountain, Francis Chischilly of Manuelito, Samuel
Chischilly of Mesa, Tommy Chischilly of Lupton; daughters, Sarah
Chischilly, Eleanor Chischilly, Fannie Keyonnie, all of Oak Springs,
Juanita Tsosie of Albuquerque, Ella Mae Johns of Wide Ruins; brother,
Paul Chischilly of Hunters Point; 35 grandchildren.
Chischilly was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Chischilly;
parents, Eska Elth Ha Hat za and Ha bah Chischilly; brothers,
John C. Hamilton, Joe Chischilly, Jim Chischilly; sister, Tom
Tsosie.
Pallbearers will be Samuel
Chischilly, Phil Chischilly, Tyrone Chischilly, Leo Chischilly,
Francis Chischilly, Abel Chischilly.
Silver Creek Mortuary
is in charge of arrangments.
Verlinda Kinsel
TSAYATOH, N.M.
Services are pending for Verlinda Kinsel, 29.
Kinsel died Wednesday,
Sept. 17, 2008, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 6, 1979, in Gallup,
into the Black Streak People Clan for the One Who Walks Around
People Clan.

Mass for Betty Jean Petrovich, 81, were 1 p.m., today, Sept. 19,
at the St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar, El Paso, Tx.
A rosary was recited 12 p.m., today, Sept. 19, at the St. Raphael
Catholic Church.
Petrovich died Wednesday,
Sept. 17, 2008. She was born in Walsenburg, Colo.
Survivors include her
daughters, Pam ONeal, Sandra Estes; brother, George Brunelli;
sister, Jackie Filangi.
Stenson Walker
GANADO Funeral
Mass for Stenson Walker, 48, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept.
20, at the All Saints Catholic Mission, Ganado. The Rev. Flann
ONeill, O.F.M., will officiate. Burial will be in family
land, Ganado. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., before services, at
the church.
Walker died Sept. 16,
2008, in Ganado. He was born Nov. 3, 1959 in Fort Defiance, into
the Bitter Water People Clan for the Red Streak People Clan.
Walker was a self-employed
wood carver of Navajo katchinas
Survivors include his
sons, Timothy Slim, Michael Slim; parents, Sammie Walker, Arlene
Woody; sister, Evelyn Walker.
