Marcella Martinez

GALLUP — Memorial Mass for Marcella Martinez, 50 will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup. The Very Rev. Lawrence J. O’Keefe will officiate.

Martinez died Oct. 10, 2008 in Gallup. She was born Sept, 25, 1958 in Durango, Colo. She lived in Oregon where she studied to become a cosmetologist and she did volunteer work with immigrant children. After moving to Gallup, she became a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral parish, helped set up priests vestments, was an occasional lector, participarted in the Spanish Choir, attended pro-life rallies, rosary walks and retreats. She volunteered for local organizations including Casa San Martin, the Catholic Indian Center, the Gallup Crisis Pregnancy Center and Little Sisters of the Poor.

Survivors include her son Sean; daughter Jamie; mother Antonia Martinez; brothers Teflieo, Jean, Bernard; sisters Pauline, Mercy, Inez and two grandchildren.

Martinez was preceded in death by her father Antonio Martinez.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ben Spencer

RED ROCK, N.M. — Services for Ben. C. Spencer, 74, will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Rehoboth. Terry Goodin will officiate. Burial will follow at the Rehoboth Cemetery.

Spencer died Oct. 11, 2008 in Gallup. He was born March 15, 1934 in Mentmore, N.M., into the Meadow People Clan for the Black Streak in the Wood People Clan.

Spencer attended Phoenix Indian School. He worked for Shell Oil Co., and retired from Giant Industries after 37 years of employment. He was also a chapter official in the Red Rock Chapter Community, as president and vice president for over 32 years. His hobbies included ranching, farming, welding and driving his tractor.

Survivors include his wife Irene L. Spencer; sons, Anthony Spencer Sr., Speedy Spencer Jr., Luke Spencer Sr., Mark Spencer, all of Red Rock; daughters Roselyn J. Spencer of Valley Center, Calif., Lorraine Spencer of Twin Buttes, Loretta Spencer of Albuquerque, Priscilla Spencer of Red Rock, Maggie Brown of Red Rock; 43 grandchildren and 29 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Spencer Sr., and Loretta Spencer; brothers Raymond Spencer, Sammy Spencer; sisters Helen Spencer Jim, Alice Bowie and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Lydell Harvey, B. J. Spender, Luke Spencer Jr., Earnest Spencer, Raymond Belardes III and Anthony Spencer Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Rehoboth School Fellowhip Hall in Rehoboth.

Rolie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Dan Yazzie

CHINLE — Services for Dan Chee Yazzie, 70, will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Catholic Church in Chinle. The Rev. Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate. Burial will follow on family land in Del Muerto, Ariz.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m., one hour prior to services at the church.

Yazzie died Oct. 10, 2008 in Payson, Ariz. He was born Sept. 8, 1938 in Del Muerto into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Red Running into the Water People Clan.

Survivors include his wife Allie Yazzie; daughter Allita Yazzie; sisters Zonnie Y. Draper, Zonnie R. Draper, Alta Martinez and Eva Sanchez; and 11 grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Chee Yazzie; daughter Charlene Yazzie; parents Jim and Yanabah Tom; brothers Tom Chee Yazzie, Guy Chee Thomas, Ben Chee Yazzie; sisters Bah Yazzie Mitchell.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
