GALLUP — Counterfeit $5 bills may be in circulation. At least one report of a fake $5 bill, which is slightly smaller in size when compared to an actual $5 bill, has been received by Gallup Police Department.

The fake was passed to a Sonic drive-through employee on Tuesday evening, according to Gallup Police Officer Ryan Blackgoat’s report. The unidentified man sandwiched the fake between two real $5 bills as he handed the money to the employee. The employee quickly identified it as a fake using an identification pen. The man took off with the food in a black Nissan Titan truck, according to the report.
