JAMESTOWN — County authorities are looking for a 56-year-old man who walked away from his home Oct. 16.

The man’s wife, 61-year-old Virginia Johns, filed a missing-person report with McKinley County Sheriff’s Office after Kevin Johns apparently walked away from their Jamestown home while she was at work. The report has since been entered into the National Crime Information Center’s missing-person database.

“He was still in bed when I left for work that morning,” Virginia Johns said.

She said she discovered his absence that afternoon when the preschool bus that drops off their 5-year-old twin grandsons could not leave them because nobody was home.

Johns is described as 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He didn’t leave any notes or clues as to where he may have gone; the only thing he took was a tan Carhartt work jacket, Virginia Johns said.

She said he was probably wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans with cowboy boots and a baseball cap.

“All his cowboy hats are still at home,” she said.

Virginia Johns said her husband had seemed happy and in good spirits during the evening prior to his disappearance, although he has had bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts during recent months.

She said he has a cell phone but that he has not been answering it.

If you have information about Kevin Johns’ whereabouts, call Virginia Johns, (505) 870-1269.
