GALLUP — Singer-songwriter-actor-educator Shawn Michael Perry is scheduled to be in Gallup Saturday afternoon at the Quintano’s Music and in the evening at Coal Street Pub.

Born in Southern California into indigenous heritage — his father is Native American of Salish ancestry and his mother is Panamanian of Mayan ancestry — Perry has embraced his culture — past and present with an eye to the future.

Perry first came to the public’s attention through his acting skills. He has appeared in the films “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Hidalgo,” and on television on such productions as “My Indian Summer” and “Murder She Wrote.” His stage credits include the highly-acclaimed production of “Ghost Dance” at Los Angeles’ Actors Gang Studio.

Perry’s musical ambitions led him to the studio with a collection of songs highlighting the human experience as seen through indigenous eyes. The songs “Freedom” and “Libertad” have received airplay and are featured on the new full-length CD, “Shawn Michael Perry & Only the Brave.”

Perry has shared the bill with such artists as Redbone, Badlands , Keith Secola and Jeff Healey.
