Belligerent Gamerco man in jail after fracas Copyright © 2008 GALLUP Gerald Patterson, 40, of Gamerco was arrested on Nov. 6 around 7:50 p.m. on U.S. 491 at mile marker 1 for battery on a peace officer, resisting, evading or obstruction and disorderly conduct. Officer Paul Davis Jr. reported he was at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and U.S. 491 when he saw a man walking from west to east crossing traffic. The man was waving his arms in the air, according to the police report. As the officer came to a stop at the intersection, he saw the man turn around and look at him. He appeared unsteady on his feet as he came toward the patrol vehicle, the officer stated. He identified himself as Gerald Patterson and started taunting the officer and yelling in a loud voice. When the officer tried to get Patterson away from the traffic he quickly walked away, but them came back, moving his hands and provoking him. Patterson then kicked the rear quarter panel of the vehicle and kicked the door shut, striking Daviss arm. He stood in a fighting stance and continued to taunt the officer, according to the police report. Davis felt threatened so he sprayed Patterson once with pepper spray, pulled him to the ground and applied handcuffs on him. The report states Patterson then became cooperative and apologized. He was placed in the rear of the patrol vehicle, medical units were called and Patterson was transported to GIMC. After treatment he was transported to McKinley County Adult Transportation Center and booked. |
