Lawrence Castaneda
GALLUP Funeral Mass and rosary for Lawrence Castaneda,
67, were 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic Church, Gallup. Burial followed at a later date. Father
Lalo officiated.
Castaneda died Feb.16, 2008, in Gallup. He was born April 21,
1940, in Gallup.
Castaneda was retired from the Gallup Independent.
Survivors included his sons, Ralph Castaneda of Gallup, John
Castaneda of Grants; daughter, Lorraine Bejarano of Gallup; brother,
Jerry Castaneda of Roswell; 13 grandchildren.
Castaneda was preceded in death by his son, Louie Castaneda;
father, Florencia Castaneda.
Compassion Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Gordon
HOUCK Funeral services for Pauline Spean Gordon, 45, wer
10 a.m. Feb. 21, 2008, at the Good News Church, Houck. Pastor
Milt Shirleson officiated. Burial was in Community Cemetery, Houck.
Gordon died Feb. 15, 2008, in Gallup. She was born July 6, 1962,
in Houck, into the Towering House People Clan for the Black Streak
Forest People Clan.
Gordon attended school in Sanders and Flagstaff. She was a homemaker,
sales clerk, and housekeeper. Her hobbies included gardening,
cooking, Indian craft work, and being with her grandchildren.
She loved to upgrade or do handiwork around her house, and attend
Good News Church.
Survivors included her husband, Gilbert Gordon; sons, Kurt Spean,
Myron Gordon, Mario Gordon, Jared Gordon, Nathan Gordon, all of
Salt Lake City, Ut.; daughters, Rised Melinda Spean-Austin of
Houck; brothers, Rexson Spean of Phoenix, Wayne Spean, Anthony
Spean of Houck; sisters, Alice Tom of Phoenix, Clara Spean-Begaye
of Salt Lake City, Arlene Spean of Houck; five grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ceceila
Spean; brother, Alexander Spean; grandparents, Tom and Margaret
Joe, Navajo and Emma Spean.
Pallbearers were Gilbert Gordon, Kurt Spean, Myron Gordon, Mario
Gordon, and Nathan Gordon.
The family received relatives and friends at Houck Chapter, following
services. Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Carpenter Sr.
GALLUP Memorial services for Richard Paul Carpenter Sr.,
63, were 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the First Assembly of
God, Gallup. Rev. David J. Toppen officiated.
Carpenter died Feb. 15, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Nov. 12,
1944, in Gallup.
Carpenter worked for Rico Motors for 23 years. Prior to that,
he worked for Bankers Life and Casualty, the Gal-A-Bowl, and K
&S Lanes. He was a member of the Elks Club and a past
president of both the Gallup Mens Golf Association and the
Catholic Indian Center Mens Club. Carpenter was a bowler,
a golfer and snooker player. He was a member of the Assembly of
God Church.
Survivors included his wife, Mary Ann Carpenter; sons, Richard
Carpenter Jr., Christopher Carpenter, all of Albuquerque; daughters,
Tamela Seagraves of Los Alamos; brother, Luther Carpenter Jr.
of Gallup; sister, Frankie Smith of Socorro; nine grandchildren.
Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Marie
Carpenter; brothers, Charlie and Roy Carpenter; sisters, Juanita
Johnson, Frances Zuver, Rosie Long; grandchildren, Samantha Seagraves
and Jacob Rich.
The family received relatives and friends at 1 p.m., 401 Sage
Avenue, Gallup.

J.R. Shondee
GANADO Funeral services for J.R. Shondee, 30, were 10
a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the All Saints Catholic Church, Ganado.
Father Flann ONeil officiated. Burial was in Ganado Community
Cemetery. Visitation was Feb. 20, at 9 a.m., one hour prior to
services.
Shondee died Feb. 14, 2008, in Laguna. He was born Aug. 21, 1977,
in Gallup, into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican
People Clan.
Shondee attended Ganado public schools, where he enjoyed playing
football and baseball. He was employed with Blue Ridge Services
in Lake View, Minn. Shondee was a sandblaster and a painter. He
enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors included his wife, Feona Shondee; sons, Tyler Lane
Shondee, Dylan Arnold Shondee; daughter, Skye Faith Shondee; parents,
Houston Shondee Jr., Paula Shondee; brother, Jona Jay Shondee;
sisters, Santana Lee Shondee, Dena Kelly Shondee; grandparents,
Pauline Duffy Yazzie, Lena Davis Shondee.
Shondee was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Howard Bedonie,
Houston Shondee Sr.; great-grandparents, Mike and Frances Duffy
Sr.
Pallbearers were family members.
The family received relatives and friends at All Saints Hall,
Ganado, following services.
Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Blanche Begaye
MITTEN ROCK Funeral services for Blanche Ann Begaye, 44,
will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Desert View Funeral Home
Chapel, Shiprock. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Red Valley,
Ariz. Visitation will be today, Feb. 19, from 5-7 p.m., at Desert
View Funeral Home.
Begaye died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, in Shiprock. She was born
Aug. 1, 1963, in Shiprock.
Survivors include her brothers, Jonas A. Begaye of Shiprock,
Darryl D. Begaye of Mitten Rock, Delbert Begaye of Gallup, Jerald
D. Begaye of Red Valley, Jeremy D. Begaye of Mitten Rock.
Begaye was preceded in death by her parents, James D. Begaye and
Bessie Lou Begay; siblings, Sara Begay, James D. Begaye Jr., Calvin
Begaye, Marjorie A. Begaye.
Pallbearers will be Delbert Begaye, Johnson Begaye, Lorenzo Spencer,
Jerry Russell, Edwin Begaye and Kenny Begay.
Lyndol Pahe
FORT DEFIANCE Services for Lyndol Melvin Pahe, 19, was
10 a.m., today, Feb. 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. Viewing was 9 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. President Clifford Thompson officiated.
Burial was in Community Cemetery, Fort Defiance.
Pahe died Saturday, Feb. 16, in Phoenix. He was born Nov. 29,
1988, in Fort Defiance, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the
Black Streak People Clan.
Pahe enjoyed boxing and other various sports. He attended one
year of college at Phoenix College and was soon going to be a
father.
Survivors included his parents, Lyle Martin of Ganado, Sharon
Jane Lee-Begay of Window Rock; brothers, Lee Michael Pahe of Fort
Defiance, Lydell Martin Pahe of Fort Defiance; grandparents, Alice
Lee of Greasewood, Melvin Pahe of Ganado.
Pahe was preceded in death by his grandfather, Calvin Lee Sr.
Pallbearers were Ray Colt Lee, Ryan Lee, Lee Pahe, Lydell Pahe,
Jerald Teller, and Wilson Wauneka.
Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
