Raymond Bia Sr.

WHITE CLAY, Ariz. — Funeral services for Raymond Bia Sr., 64, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Chinle Catholic Church, Chinle. Sister Margaret R. Bohn O.P. will officiate.

Bia died Feb. 19, 2008, in Spider Rock, Ariz. He was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Sawmill, into the Near the Water People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Bia graduated from Chile High School. He was employed with the Navajo Forestry Product Industry and received a Safety Award. His hobbies included horseback riding, ranching, hiking, playing baseball for Sawmill Redsox and working on automobiles.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Bia; sons, Julian Bia of Phoenix, Julison Bia of Dennehotso, Ray Bia of Flagstaff, Daniel Bia of Denver, Raymond Bia Jr. of Phoenix, Leon Bia of Phoenix, Julius Bia of Spider Rock; daughters, Romona Bia of Phoenix, Ranae Nez of Spider Rock; brothers, Wallace Bia, Vincent Bia, Ben Bia Jr., Lorenzo Bia, Wilfred Bia, Henry Bia; sisters, Pauline Bia, Laverna Charley, Linda Yazzie, Sarah Nez, Bernice Barber, Rosalie Chee; 17 grandchildren.

Bia was preceded in death by his father, Ben Bia Sr.; brothers, Freddie Bia, Jonah Bia.

Pallbearers will be Julian Bia, Daniel Bia, and Ray Bia.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chinle Catholic Hall, following services.

Cheryl Anderson

SAWMILL — Services for Cheryl Anderson, 34, were 10 a.m. today, Feb. 22, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Fort Defiance. Father Gilbert Schneider officiated. Visitation was 9-10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church. A rosary was recited Thursday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Anderson died Feb. 18, 2008, in Phoenix. She was born Feb. 11, 1974, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Water Flows Together People Clan.

Anderson attended Camelback High School, Navajo Academy, Phoenix College, and Gateway Community College. She was certified as a CNA and was employed with Scottsdale Osborn for six years. Anderson was involved in parent committees in Phoenix, powwow committees, she was a basketball player in women’s basketball.

Survivors included her husband, Ryland Becenti; sons, Ryneil Becenti, Riley Becenti; daughter, Rylin Paige Becenti; parents, Helen Anderson, Ralph Anderson; brothers, Terrence Anderson, L. Myra Jesus, Brandon Jesus; sisters, Sharon Stealy, Andra Jesus.

Anderson was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Anderson.

Pallbearers were Terrence Anderson, Brandon Jesus, Reyes Becenti, Michael Warren, Ryan Becenti, Adrian Begay.

The family received relatives and friends at Sawmill Chapter House, following services.

Jane Atencio

PUEBLO ALTO-STAR LAKE, CUBA, N.M. — Funeral services for Jane Toledo Atencio, 81, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Miracle Church, Pueblo Alto. Alfred Watchman will officiate. Burial will be in Star Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m., Feb. 23, at the Miracle Church, Pueblo Alto. A rosary will recited at 10 a.m. Feb. 23, at the Miracle Church.

Atencio died Feb. 19, 2008, in Grants. She was born March 7, 1926, in Star Lake, into the Towering House People Clan for the Mud People Clan.

Atencio was a foster grandparent, active in community meetings, and a health board member. She was awarded for foster grandparent and health board work. She was a homemaker, rug weaver, and loved cooking traditional meals.

Survivors include her husband Sam Atencio; sons, Emerson of Farmington, Nelson L. of Pueblo Alto, Harrison Atencio of Pueblo Alto; daughters, Suzanne A. Pearsall of Fayetteville, N.C., Eleanor Atencio of Pueblo Alto, Gladys Bochinclony, Jeannette Atencio, both of Farmington; brothers, Jimmy Toledo of Torreon, Peter Toledo of Torreon; sisters, Nellie Toledo Cayotineto of Torreon, Millie Toledo Torren, Emma Toledo Torreon; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nelson Atencio Jr., David E. Watts, Eric Jan Atencio, Darrnell Sam Atencio, Nelson Atencio Sr., and Karlos L. Atencio.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Pueblo Pintado Chapter House, following services.

Katherine Lewis

MARIANO LAKE — Services for Katherine S. Lewis, 84, will be 10 a.m., Feb. 23, at Rollie Mortuary Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Rehoboth Mission Cemetery.

Lewis died Feb. 20, 2008, in Grants. She was born March 22, 1923, in Mariano Lake, into the Clumped Tree People Clan for the Meadow People Clan.

Lewis was a rug weaver and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry John, Virgil John; daughters, Lucille Charley, Doradene John, Marie Wallace; sister, Christine Yazzie; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Lewis Sr., sons, Emerson John, Robert John; grandson, Johnathan John; sisters, Nancy King, Alice S. John.

Pallbearers will be Virgil John, Clint R. Begay, Chad Jim, Harold Charley, Marvin Wallace, and Lathan Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mariano Lake Chapter House.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Lyndol Pahe

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Lyndol Melvin Pahe, 19, were 10 a.m., today, Feb. 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing was 9 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. President Clifford Thompson officiated. Burial was in the Community Cemetery, Fort Defiance.

Pahe died Saturday, Feb. 16, in Phoenix. He was born Nov. 29, 1988, in Fort Defiance, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Black Streak People Clan.

Pahe enjoyed boxing and other sports. He attended one year of college at Phoenix College and was soon going to be a father.

Survivors included his parents, Lyle Martin of Ganado, Sharon Jane Lee-Begay of Window Rock; brothers, Lee Michael Pahe of Fort Defiance, Lydell Martin Pahe of Fort Defiance; grandparents, Alice Lee of Greasewood, Melvin Pahe of Ganado.

Pahe was preceded in death by his grandfather, Calvin Lee Sr.

Pallbearers will be Ray Colt Lee, Ryan Lee, Lee Pahe, Lydell Pahe, Jerald Teller, and Wilson Wauneka.

Gilmore Yazzie

BLUE GAP, Ariz. — Services for Gilmore Yazzie, 48, will be 10 a.m., Feb. 23, at the Potter House, Chinle. Pastor Aragon will officiate. Burial will be at Chinle Community Cementery.

Yazzie died Feb. 15, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan 3, 1960, in Ganado, Ariz., into the Mexican People Clan for the Tangle People Clan.

Yazzie was employed in Albuquerque and known for his bead work in Chinle and the Albuquerque area.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Charlie of Cottonwood, Evelyn Yazzie of Blue Gap, Clara Yazzie of Albuquerque, Carole Yazzie of Colorado Springs; brothers Sam Begay of Blue Gap, LeRoy and Elmer Yazzie of Phoenix.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mary D. Yazzie; sisters, Mary R. James, Helen Tsosie; brother, Jimmie Begay.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.


Lee Chavez

THOREAU — Services are pending for Lee Chavez, 80.

Chavez died Feb. 20, 2008, in Grants. He was born July 26, 1927, in Thoreau.

A family gathering will be at the Thoreau Chapter House, today, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m.
