Sandra Sumpter

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Burial for Sandra Juanita Sumpter, 82, will be in San Diego, Cali.
Sumpter died Dec. 28, 2007, in Gallup. She was born March 21, 1925, in San Diego.

Sumpter grew up in San Diego and San Jose, Calif. She was a homemaker and was married to a career Navy man. During the Vietnam War years, she volunteered her time with the American Red Cross at various military hospitals in Virginia, California and on the island of Okinawa. Her hobbies included camping, traveling, collecting various collectibles, an occasional visit to the casino, and taking care of her cats, dogs and birds.

Survivors include her sons, Jim Sumpter of Fort Defiance, Ron Howell of Eugene, Ore., O.J. Howell of Grants, Richard Kanerva of Sierra Vista; brother, Rudy Aguirre of Belle Vista, Ark.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Sumpter was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Sumpter; parents; grandparents; two children and three brothers.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Dominic Bertinetti

GALLUP — Memorial service for Dominic F. Bertinetti, 70, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the First United Methodist Church, 1800 Red Rock Drive.

Bertinetti died Dec. 30, 2007. He was born July 25, 1937.

Bertinetti was known as the “Cake Man” to many people in Gallup, and “Uncle Floyd” to those who were close to him. He was a life long resident of Gallup. He graduated from Gallup High School in 1956. He then served his country in the United States Air Force. After serving his country he attended bookkeeping school in Albuquerque, where he continued to live for several years. He then moved to Colorado for 4 years and then moved back to Gallup. He lived and worked in Zuni for several years, finally moving back to Gallup to care for his parents. Bertinetti worked for a local business before retiring. His love for young people and helping others brought him out of retirement and he began working at Central High School serving lunches to the staff and students, as well as working for the summer lunch program.

Survivors include his brothers, David Bertinetti, Jerry Bertinetti; sister, Melvina Lewis, all of Gallup.

Bertinetti was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Helen Bertinetti.

A family reception will follow the memorial service at the First United Methodist Church.


Roland Baca

ALBUQUERQUE — Services are pending for Roland James Baca, 42.

Baca died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, in Prescott. He was born July 29, 1965, in Los Angeles.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
