Amelia Wauneka

Crystal, N.M. — Funeral services for Amelia Wauneka, 81, were 10 a.m. today, Jan. 9, at the Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, Crystal. Sister Margaret officiated. Burial was in the family plot in Crystal. Visitation was 9 a.m. today. A rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m.

Wauneka died Jan. 4, 2008. She was born Dec. 25, 1926 into the Water Edge People Clan for the Honey Combed Rock/Cliff Dwellers People Clan.

Wauneka worked at Fort Defiance Indian Hospital for 33 years and retired in 1981. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, watching The Price is Right, traveling, visiting family and friends, puzzle books, and she enjoyed yearly events. She liked the shows Love Boat and Lone Ranger. Her favorite singer was Ed Natay. She enjoyed traditional Squaw Dances.

Survivors included her son, William P. Tsosie Jr. of Crystal; daughters, Fairy A. Wauneka of Crystal, Gertie A. Frank of St. Johns, Rita A. Wauneka of Crystal, Della M. Wauneka of Crystal, Elvira J. Wauneka of Navajo; brother, Frank C. Nez of Rough Rock; sisters, Mary J. Tsosie of Crystal, Clara J. Damon of Crystal, Marie C. Nez of Window Rock, Frank C. Nez of Rough Rock; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Wauneka was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Wauneka; mother, Hasbah Elise Nez; father, Chischilly Nez; son, Edison Wauneka; brother, Francis Nez.

Pallbearers were Russell Frank, Dwayne Frank, Tareney Frank, Timothy Wauneka, Adrian Miles and Michael Gamboa.

Arlene Luther

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Arlene Carol Luther, 59, will be 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 601 Susan Ave., Gallup. Visitation will be at Rollie Mortuary 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Luther died Jan. 7, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born March 5, 1948, in Tuba City into the Towering House People Clan for the Red Running into the Water People Clan.

Luther’s elementary and junior high school years were completed in Flagstaff. Her senior year was completed in Riverside Indian School where she was valodictorian for her graduating class. She received her Practical Nursing license from Oklahoma Baptist University. At her time of death, she was program manager with Waste Regulatory Compliance Dept. of Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency in Window Rock.

Survivors include her mother, Hazel P. Luther of Coppermine, Ariz.; brothers, Larry J. Luther of Phoenix, Delbert A. Luther of Fort Defiance; sisters, Marjorie L. Luther of Coppermine, Charlotte Reuis of Sapulpa, Okla., Priscilla Blackhorse of Albuquerque.

Luther was preceded in death by her father, Frank Luther; brother, Patrick J. Luther; grandmothers, Alice Long and Maggie Luther Begay.

Pallbearers will be Larry J. Luther, Taft Blackhorse Jr., Craig T. Denetclale, Delbert A. Luther, Michael M. Luther, Sheldon Blackhorse, and Kevin L. Blackhorse.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Ruth Yazzie

SANDERS — Graveside services for Ruth Utentillie Yazzie, 103, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. Pastor Ben Yazzie will officiate. Burial will be in Jeddito Community Cemetery.

Yazzie died Jan. 8, 2008 in Gallup. She was born Jan. 1, 1908 in Hard Rock, Ariz., into the Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Big Water People Clan.

Yazzie was a medicine/herbalist , rugweaver, moccasin maker, pottery maker and a traditional educator.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary J. Tsosie of Smoke Signal, Ariz.

Yazzie was preceded in death by Fatty Utentillie, Wilson Arnoldith, Henry Zah, Oliver Thompson, Mable Jimmie, Elizabeth U. Phillip, John Ben I, John Ben II, John Ben III and Bessie Tsosie.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Robert Bahe Sr.

SHIPROCK — Graveside services for Robert Bahe Sr., 72, were 10 a.m. today, at the Shiprock Cemetery.

Bahe died Dec. 18, 2007 in Grants. He was born June 10, 1935, in Rural- Leupp.

Bahe lived in Fort Defiance and attended trade school as a welder. He played in a band called The Nomads.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.


Raymond Cleveland

CASMERO LAKE — Services are pending for Raymond “The Legend” Cleveland, 50.

Cleveland died Jan. 5, 2008 in Corona, N.M. He was born April 4, 1957 in Crownpoint.

Cleveland was employed as a truck driver and was the vice president of the Casamero Lake Chapter House at the time of his death.


Tom Tso Jr.

COYOTE CANYON — Services are pending for Tom Tso Jr., 55.

Tso died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 in Coyote Canyon. He was born May 11, 1952 in Tohlakai, N.M. into the Charcoal Streak People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Nonabah Henry

NASCHITTI — Services are pending for Nonabah Henry, 86.

Henry died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Gallup. She was born Oct. 17, 1921 in Naschitti into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Salt People

Clan.
