Ruth Sam

BUFFALO SPRINGS — Funeral services for Ruth D. Sam, 27, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tohatchi. Father John Mittelstadt will officiate. Burial will be in Tohatchi. Visitation will be at 3-4:30 p.m. today, Jan. 11 at Rollie Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Jan. 12 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tohatchi.

Sam died Jan. 9, 2008 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 21, 1980 in Gallup into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Sam graduated from Tohatchi High School in 1998. She attended 2 years at the Career Point Institute, San Antonio, Texas for nursing.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Sam III of Naschitti; sons, Ritchi H. Sam, Marcellus H. Sam, both of Naschitti; daughter, Kayla H. Sam of Naschitti; parents, Rosita James of Buffalo Springs, Johnnie Belone of Albuquerque; brothers, J.R. Holyan of San Francisco, Larry Holyan of Buffalo Springs; sister, Rosalie James of Buffalo Springs.

Sam was preceded in death by Ruth Holyan, Sam Holyan, Emma Holyan, Maude Sleuth, Duffy, Gene Bob, Barry Sr. Cinniginnie, Ethlena Julian, Kathlean James, Roger Holyan, Samuel Hoylan, Eddie Cinniginnie, Carl Cinniginnie, Nelson Cambridge, Larry Cambridge, Dorthy Belone.

Pallbearers will be Herbert Sam III, Hubert Sam, Halbert Sam, Herb Sam, J.R. Holyan, and Matthew Holyan.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Tohatchi Chapter House, Tohatchi at 12 p.m., after services. The family will meet at Tohatchi Chapter House at 5 p.m.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Marcus Begay

YATAHEY — Services for Marcus Begay, 21, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Pastor Jimmy Woods will officiate.Burial will be at City Cemetery.

Begay died Jan. 7, 2008 in Fort Defiance. He was born Nov. 25, 1986 in Fort Defiance.

Survivors included daughter, Ciara Begay of Yatahey; parents, Delvina M. Begay, Michael Winney, both of Yatahey; brothers, Anthony Begay of Farmington, Donovan Winney of Yatahey; sisters, Sophia Begay of Flagstaff.

Begay was preceded in death by his grandmother, Laverna M. Tachiney.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Begay, Donovan Winney, Eric Avery, Silas Begay, Wilbert Barton, and Duane Yazzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Rocksprings Chapter House, after services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Tom Tso Jr.

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Tom Tso Jr., 55, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Rehoboth. Pastor Robert Byker will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth. Visitation will be at Rollie Mortuary, Jan. 11 from 3-4:30 p.m.

Tso died Jan. 7, 2008 in Coyote Canyon. He was born May 11, 1952 in Tohlakai into the Charcoal Streak People Clan/Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Survivors include his brothers, Alfred Tso of Coyote Canyon, Emerson Sandoval of Tohatchi; sisters, Ruby Kinsel of Coyote Canyon, Dorothy Hubbard of Tohlakai; Etta Willie, Ruthann Tso, Alice Tso, Theresa Tso Henio, Julia Grebb all of Coyote Canyon, Jennie Todechine of Coyote Canyon.

Tso was preceded in death by his father, Tom Tso Sr.; mother, Nellie Tso; brother, Howard Tso.

Pallbearers will be Wainwright Tso, Warren Todechine, Walter Todechine, Winchell Tso, Jayson Begay, and Derrick James.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Rehoboth Fellowship Hall, after services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Catherine Miller

CHURCHROCK — Services are pending for Catherine A. Miller, 97.

Miller died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 in Gallup. She was born July 23, 1910 in Fort Defiance into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Black Streak of Forest People Clan.

A family gathering will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Churchrock Chapter.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Evelyn Mescal

LITTLE WATER — Services are pending for Evelyn Mescal, 45.

Mescal died Thursday, Jan. 10 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 5, 1942.

A family gathering will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Blue Water Springs Pentecostal Church located 4 miles east of Crownpoint, near the residence of Mary Mescal.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
