Richard Allgood
SILVER CITY Funeral services for Richard A. Allgood, 85,
will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the First Baptist Church,
2300 Swan Street, Silver City. Pastor Robert Brasier will officiate.
Interment will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery.
Allgood died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was born September 19,
1922 in Decatur, MS.
Allgood served in WWII as a signalman for the U. S. Navy and
was allowed to take the controls of the T-38 Talon with Colonel
Chuck Yeager and in 1963 was made a member of the Order of the
Talon. After graduating from New Mexico State University in 1950
as a civil engineer, he was employed by the New Mexico Department
of Game and Fish and then worked for various engineering firms
around the state until starting his own firm in 1967 in Gallup.
Retiring in 1981 from Allgood, Sterling and Mataya he moved to
Silver City where he enjoyed his retirement while staying busy
and offering his engineering skills to redesign the Cliff-Gila
County Fair Grounds water system. He was also appointed the State
Game Commission by Governor Gary Carruthers. His hobbies include
his love of the outdoors and hunting. He raised outstanding Brittany
bird dogs and was quail hunting just previous to his death.
Survivors include his son, Lance Allgood of Gallup; daughter,
Donna Comyford of Silver City; sister, Pat Beal of Las Cruces;
three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Allgood was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Lula
(Russell) Allgood; wife Janie; former wife, Loyce; brother, Loris
Russell Allgood; sisters, Angeleen Merritt, Lazell Robinson.
Pallbearers for Mr. Allgood will be Bob Comyford; Denton Comyford;
Lance Allgood; Russell White; Richard White and Aron Phillips.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church,
2300 Swan Street, Silver City, NM 88061 or the charity of your
choice.
Katarina Schmaltz
ALBUQUERQUE Memorial services for Katarina Katie
Schmaltz, 88, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the French
Mortuary, Wyoming NE, Albuquerque. Burial will be in Gallup.
Schmaltz died Jan. 13, 2008 in Albuquerque. She was born Sept.
15, 1919.
Survivors include his sons, Ron Schmaltz, Dale Schmaltz, both
of Albuquerque, Daryl Schmaltz of Gallup; daughters, Yvonne Dockter
of California; sisters, Dotty Walker, Rose Komadina, both of California;
six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Schmaltz was preceded in death by her husband, John Schmaltz;
sisters, Anna Bubany, Mary Komadina, Helen Gillis; brothers, George,
Frank, Tom, John Komadina.
Lowery Tungovia Sr.
ALBUQUERQUE Traditional wake for Lowery Tungovia Sr.,
61, will be 8 p.m. tonight, Jan. 16, at the Tungovias residence,
Polacca, Ariz.
Tungovia died Jan. 13, 2008 in Albuquerque. He was born Sept.
11, 1946 in Keams Canyon into the Tewa Bear People Clan for the
Hopi Sand People Clan.
Tungovia graduated from Snowflake Union High School, attended
College of Ganado, Albuquerque TVI, International of Business
School, and Auto Mechanic School. He served 5 years in the U.S.
Army-Airborne/Air Defense. His hobbies included fishing, rodeos,
football, traveling, reading, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his son, Lowery Tungovia Jr. of Albuquerque;
daughters, Sheree Tungovia of Albuquerque; LaRee W. Dick of Nespelem,
Wash., Brynette C. Conley of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Howard
Tungovia of Nazlini, Alton Tungovia of Polacca; three grandchildren.
Tungovia was preceded in death by his wife, Sherlee Tungovia;
parents, Bryon and Bertha Tungovia; brothers, Boyd Hansen Sr.,
Merrill and Carlos Tungovia; sisters, Adeline, Alta, Gaylene Tungovia.
Pallbearers will be Alton Tungovia, Timothy Tungovia, Raynard
Tungovia, Kirkland Dewakuku, Buddy Kooyaquaptewa, Jeremy Nez and
Fred Denet.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Tungovia residence,
following services.
Fidel Chacon
GALLUP Funeral mass for Fidel Abenicio Chacon, 50, will
be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Father
Edwin Bryan-Diesen will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City
Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at Rollie Mortuary 7 p.m. tonight,
Jan. 16.
Chacon died Jan. 12, 2008 in Gallup. He was born Jan. 24, 1957
in Gallup.
Chacon graduated from Gallup High in 1975. He was employed at
Uptown Plaza, Lowes Shop-N-Save since 1978. His hobbies
included playing guitar, woodcraft, and baking. He also played
in several bands, playing for the Posadas and the choir, at the
Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Survivors include his parents, Abenicio and Beatrice Chacon of
Gallup; brother, Ben Chacon Jr. of Gallup; sisters, Virginia Chacon,
Ramona Aragon, Linda Gallegos, Helen Escamilla, Maryann Marquez,
all of Gallup.
Chacon was preceded in death by his grandparents,Jose D. Chacon,
Nicomedes Chacon, Fidel Candelaria, Julianita Candelaria.Pallbearers
will be Gabriel Aragon, Raymond Candelaria, Joe Escamilla Sr.,
Raymond Gallegos Sr., Gary Longan and Philip Marquez.
The following will receive relatives and friends at Cathedral
Family Center, following services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Largo
GALLUP Funeral services for Kenneth Singer Largo, 58,
will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the First Baptist Church, Thoreau.
Rev. Gordon Yazzie will officiate. Burial will be in Thoreau Community
Cemetery, Thoreau.
Largo died Jan. 11, 2008 in Gallup. He was born July 12, 1949
in Winslow into the Deer Spring People Clan for the Salt People
Clan.
Largo graduated from Monument Valley High School. He got his
Bachelors Degree at the University of New Mexico, Gallup. Later
served in the U.S. Army. He worked many years for the U.S. government
at PHS in Kayenta and then at the Presidio Army Base in San Francisco.
Survivors include his mother, Alice J. Largo of Birdssprings;
brother, John Largo of Gallup; sisters, Sharon Waahila of Kona,
Hawaii, Genevieve Martinez of Birdsprings, Loretta Largo of Kayenta;
grandmother, Marie John of Birdsprings.
Largo was preceded in death by his father, John T. Largo; brother,
Calvin D. Largo; sister, Linda Martin; grandparents, Charley John,
Tom Largo, Emma Largo.
Pallbearers will be Louis Joe, Kenton Pugh, Aric Francis, Lance
Begay, Jordan Cody, Matthew Woodty, Malcolm Chischilly, and Jake
Shorty.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Chapter
House, Thoreau, following services.

Leonard Francis
PHOENIX Funeral services for Leonard Francis, 58, will
be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Four Corners Community Church,
Shiprock. Pastor Luther Bolung will officiate. Burial will be
in Shiprock Community Veterans Cemetery.
Francis was born May 6, 1949 in Rico, Colo. into the Red Running
Into the Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.
Francis attended Ignacio High School, Ignacio, Colo. and Phoenix
College. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.
Francis was employed with the U.S. Postal service for 39 years.
His hobbies included golfing, softball, fishing, boating, cooking
and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Carmelita Francis of Fort Defiance;
sons, Lance Francis of Flagstaff, Wendell Larsen of Fort Defiance;
daughters, Shannon Francis of Denver, Winona Larson of St. Michaels;
mother, Patty Francis of Shiprock; brothers, Gilbert Francis,
Alfred Francis Jr., Larry Francis; sisters, Norma Pete, Ruthie
Francis, Eleanore Jones; seven grandchildren.
Francis was preceded in death by Alfred Francis Sr., Herbert
Francis, JoJean Francis.
Pallbearers will be Tom Pete Jr., Craig W. Begay, Russell H. Francis,
Wendell L. Damon, Darren J. Larsen, and Jose L. Perez.
A reception will be announced after services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
