Bernhardt Maki

GRANTS — Memorial Mass for Bernhardt Maki,84, will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, at the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate.

Maki died Feb. 27, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born March 14, 1923, in Wakefield, Mich.

Maki was retired from Kerr McGee Mines.

Survivors include his wife, Mary I. Maki of Grants; sons, Dale Maki of Grants, William G. Maki of Kathleen Ga., James Maki of Chicago; daughter, Donna Miller of Alamogordo, N.M.; brothers, Earl Maki , Eugene Maki, both of Wakefield, Mich., Lloyd Maki of Marquette, Mich., Douglas Maki of Connecticut, Donny Maki of Gwinn, Mich.; sisters Lora Olson of Wakefield, Mich, Carrie Ozello of Rochester, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents William O. Maki and Linnea Torkko Maki; sister Bernice Stensrue.

Compassion Morturay is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Buckinghorse

WHIPPOORWILL SPRINGS, Ariz. — Funeral Mass for Clara Yazzie Buckinghorse, 86, will be 11 a.m. March 1, at the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Chinle. Father Cormac will officiate.

Burial will be in family land, Whippoorwill Springs. Visitation will be at Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 10 a.m, one hour prior to services.

Buckinghorse died Feb. 26, 2008, in Winslow.

She was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Keams Canyon, into the Salt Water People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Buckinghorse attended Keams Canyon Boarding School, advocated for the building of Piñon High School in Washington D.C. and implementing Senior Citizens Centers throughout the Navajo reservation by traveling to Wisconsin. She lived her life as a homemaker and a well-known rug weaver.

Survivors include her sons, Peter Buck Sr., Preston Buckinghorse, Victor Buckinghorse; daughters, Lucy Goldtooth, Phyllis Begay, Betty Tsosie, Laverne Bates; 42 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Buckinghorse was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Buckinghorse; sons, Kenneth Buckinghorse, Lawrence Buckinghorse; daughter, Loretta Henry.

Pallbearers will be Peter Buck Sr., Davis Mitchell, Roger T. Begay, Ryan Goldtooth, Rodgericks T. Begay and Edison Mitchell.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Buckinghorse residence, following services.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Salazar

GRANTS — Graveside services for Gladys Salazar, 79, will be 1 p.m., Monday, March, 3, at the Grants Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Joel Toppen will officiate. Visitation will be 2 p.m. March 3, at the Milan Parks and Recreation Department.

Salazar died Feb. 25, 2008, in Grants. She was born March 3, 1928, in San Rafael.

Survivors include her husband, Fermin Salazar of Grants; sons, Don Padilla of Gallup; sisters, Louie Jaramillo of Albuquerque, Lilly Jaramillo of Rio Rancho, Melva Guzman of California; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Salazar was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Teddy Padilla; son, Ruben Padilla; several brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be John Paul Lopez, and Alex Archuleta Jr.

Robert Talley

TOHLAKAI — Services are pending for Robert Leonard Talley, 69.

Talley died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, in Gallup.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
