A cross to bear: ABOVE: Rod Purves lets a passerby sign his
cross in downtown Gallup. Purves began his journey one year in Orange
County, Calif. on September 14th and will eventually make his way
to the White House where he will display the five crosses he has
carried. "It's kind of a labor of love, I'm trying to help get our
country back on track," Purves said. BELOW: Rod Purves walks along
Historic Route 66 in downtown Gallup on Saturday afternoon. Purves,
a Catholic, travels in his RV, stopping at various towns along the
way to carry the cross and a flag on his custom made cart with his
dog Maurice. Purves says he is doing penance in an effort to heal
