Carl’s Jr. is robbed, pawn shop burglarized

By Leslie Wood

GALLUP — Two men robbed a local restaurant at gun point Sunday night and fled the location with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Deputy Police Chief John Allen, of the Gallup Police Department, said two Hispanic men in their late teens to early 20s walked into the Carl’s Jr. restaurant, 405 Kachina St., at about 9:30 p.m. and demanded the employees hand over the business’ cash. The men each produced a handgun while they made their demand.

The employees complied and the suspects left the restaurant, Allen said.

One of the suspects is described as about 5 feet 3 inches tall and has a clean-shaven bald head. The second suspect has a flat top haircut, according to witness accounts.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man on a charge of commercial burglary in connection with an overnight break-in at Andy’s Pawn Shop.

Authorities were called to the shop, 612 W. Wilson, at about 3 a.m. in reference to the burglary and learned someone broke into the business through its roof.

Officers searched the area and found an abandoned, unlocked vehicle with its keys in the ignition near the TDFL Football Field. A man soon returned to the vehicle and he was identified as Carlos Olson.

Olson’s shoe prints reportedly matched those found near the burglarized business. Allen said Olson also admitted to his involvement in the break-in.

Allen did not immediately have a list of items that were taken from the shop.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery or burglary, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (505) 722-6161. The organization is offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the case.
