Teens: Let’s get this party started ... doh!

By Independent staff

GALLUP — McKinley County sheriff’s deputies broke up a high school party on private property along Mentmore Road Thursday night.

About 25 vehicles were parked at the location near Carbon Coal Mine Road, Sheriff Frank Gonzales said.

The teenagers gathered pellets to start a bonfire at about 8:40 p.m.; however, deputies arrived as the fire was started. Gallup firefighters were then called to the scene to extinguish the bonfire.

“We found the party just as it got started,” Gonzales said.

Deputies set up a roadblock to search the involved vehicles. They confiscated some alcohol and issued several citations for traffic violations.

The incident has been forwarded to the juvenile probation office for further investigation, Gonzales said.
