Benny Barker

SANDERS — Funeral services for Benny Barker, 63, will be 10 a.m. May 16, at the Houck Catholic Church. Father Berard will officiate. Burial will be in Houck Cemetery.

Barker died May 11, 2008, in Sanders. He was born Nov. 29, 1944, in Sanders, into the Red Running Into the Water of the Zuni People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Barker graduated from Sanders Valley High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam War in 1964-1970.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Barker, Victoria Matt; brothers, Charles, Fred, Frank Barker; two grandchildren.

Barker was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Netlbah Barker; brothers, James, Williams, Patrick, Harry, Steve, Sam; sisters, Mona, Fannie.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Montgomery, Harold Matt, Mike Flanagan, Clyde Montgomery, William Barker and Ted Goodluck III.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter, following services.

Al Begay

GALLUP — Funeral services for Al T. Begay, 30, will be 10 a.m. May 16, at the Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Begay died May 10, 2008, in Gallup. He was born March 5, 1978, in Gallup, into the Tangle People Clan for the Edgewater People Clan.

Begay lived in Red Hill Trailer Park. He attended Central High School and graduated in 1998. Begay worked at Rocky View Elementary and did various maintenance jobs.

Survivors include his son, Kendrix Begay of Gallup; daughter, Cheyenne Begay of Gallup; parents, Alfred T. Begay of Gallup, Fannie Begay of Gallup; sisters, Alfreda Begay of Phoenix, Alnertine Paxton of Wahiaua, HI, Bertishia Begay of Gallup, Crystal Begay of Gallup.

Pallbearers will be Edward King Jr., David T. Begay, Juluis Benallie, Casey Eddie, Lindy Chee, and Vernell Watchman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Churchrock Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Brown

BLUE CANYON, Ariz. — Funeral services for Shirley May Brown, 62, will be 10 a.m. May 16, at the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Fort Defiance. Father Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot, Blue Canyon.

Brown died May 12, 2008, in Fort Defiance. She was born in Fort Defiance, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Towering House - Near the Water People Clan.

Brown graduated from high school in Snowflake, Ariz. and went for 2 years at Northern Arizona University. She worked for Office of Navajo Employment Opportunity. Her hobbies included arts and crafts.

Survivors include her sons, Hilary Brown of Tuscon, Bert Brown of Tucson, Henry Brown of Navajo; brothers, Elliott Milford Jr. of Red Lake; sisters, Antionette Milford of Sheepsprings; five grandchildren.

Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Elliott Milford; brothers, James Milford, Charles Milford.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fort Defiance Chapter House, following services.

Ernest Keedah Sr.

SHEEPSPRINGS — Graveside services for Ernest E. Keedah Sr., 72, will be 1 p.m. May 16, at the Community Cemetery, Sheepsprings. Reverend Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Sheepsprings.

Keedah Sr. died Feb.14, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 02, 1935, in Toadlena, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Keedah was a lifelong rancher.

Survivors include his sons, Ernest E. Keedah Jr. of Holbrook, Val Christopher Keedah of Holbrook; brother, Roy Keedah of Tulsa, Ok.; sisters, Emma Keedah of Shiprock, Rose Mike of Toadlena.

Keedah was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ada Keedah; brothers, Peter Keeda, Jesse Kenepah, Jerome Kenepah, Larry Keedah; sisters, Ethel Bedonie, Clara P. King.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Margaret Landavazo

GALLUP — Memorial services for Margaret Landavazo, 87, will be 10 a.m., May 28, at the Gallup Christian Center, The Door, 3305 Chee Dodge Blvd.

Landavazo died May 8, 2008 in Yucaipa, Calif. She was born September 11, 1920 in Cohoes, New York,

Landavazo met O.O. (Tobe) Landavazo while he was stationed in Detroit in the Army-Air Corps. After marrying, they settled In Gallup, in 1942. She was active in family, school and community, and especially witnessing “for Jesus alone” at Gallup Christian Center, The Door.

Survivors include her sons, Paul, Michael; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Landavazo was preceded by her husband, Tobe; father, Joseph; mother, Anissa; 6 brothers and sisters; and one granddaughter.

Reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

Jim Louie

WIDE RUINS — Services are pending for Jim Louie, 66.

Louie died May 13, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born May 16, 1941, in Wide Ruins.

A family gathering will be 5 p.m., tonight, May 15, at the Wide Ruins Chapter.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Peshlakai

WINDOW ROCK — Funeral services for Eleanor Mae Peshlakai, 54, will be 10 a.m., Friday. May 16, at the St. Michael’s Catholic Franciscan Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. May 16, one hour prior to services.

Peshlakai died May 12, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born April 16, 1954, in Fort Defiance, into the Mud People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Peshlakai graduated from St. Michaels Catholic School. She worked for BIA, IHS, and GIMC, and was active in basketball and receive numerous awards. Peshlakai loved sewing, baking, cooking, hosting family functions, and was very supportive to further youth education.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Peshlakai of Window Rock; son, Bryan Peshlakai of Phoenix; daughter, Geraldine Peshlakai of Window Rock; parents, Ben and Ella Mae Thomas of Window Rock; brothers, Leo Thomas, Jasper Thomas, Jessie Thomas, Everett Thomas, Ben Thomas Jr., Melvin Thomas, all of Window Rock; sister, Carol Thomas of Window Rock; one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Thomas, Jessie Thomas, Everett Thomas, Jasper Thomas, Leo Thomas, and Sidney Thomas.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Parish Hall, following services and the family will meet 6 p.m., tonight, May 15, at the St. Michael Chapter House.

Erlinda Steely

CUBERO, N.M. — Memorial Mass for Erlinda V. Steely, 87, will be 10 a.m. May 16, at the Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, Cubero. Burial will be in Cubero Community Cemeter. Father Leary will officiate. A rosary will be 7 p.m., today, May 15, at the Our Lady of Light Catholic Church.

Steely died May 9, 2008, in Cubero. She was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Cubero.

Steely was a cook all her life, working in restaurants and schools.

Survivors include her daughter, Lenore Baros of Cubero; sister, Delia Ceballos of Irvine, Calif.; brother, Uvaldo Baca of San Bernadino, Calif.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Steely was preceded in death by her mother, Lucia Velasquez; sisters, Prudencia Chavez, Angelina Lopez and Viola Baca.

Billy Young

TUCSON — Memorial services for Billy Gene Young, 75, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, at in the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 13450 N Lon Adams, Marana, Ariz. 85653.

Young died May 11, 2008, in Tucson. He was born March 4, 1933, in Joplin, Mo.

Young grew up in Joplin, MO and in Hiwassee, Ark. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1951 and was in the Air Force for 10 years. He worked for Avco Lycoming and McDonald Douglas as a civilian consultant for military. In 1970, he moved to Grants to partner with his brother Bob in his auto shop, Bob's Garage. They grew their business adding a radiator service, diesel road service, towing and wrecking. In 1980, he moved to Columbia Falls, Mont., to be near their children and grandchildren. In 1983, he left the business with his son Bill and moved to Gallup. There he opened Bill's Radiator shop. Eventually Bill retired from the radiator shop and moved back to Grants, then to Tucson.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy; sons, Charles of Tucson, Bill of Gallup; daughter, Debbe of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Joann Noel, Linda Haliday, both of Joplin, MO.; brother, Bob of Bosque Farms, NM.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

Young was preceded in death by his father, mother; sister, Bette.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
