Rosebrough chosen as Democratic party leader

By Bill Donovan

GALLUP — Former Gallup Mayor Bob Rosebrough has been chosen to lead the McKinley County Democratic Party.

Rosebrough was chosen in an election that took place last week, receiving six votes to five for Lester Tsosie.

The county Democratic Party has been somewhat in disarray since the departure three years of Mary Ann Armijo as the county party’s chairman. Since then, the party has had three presidents, with the latest, George Munoz, stepping down when he became a candidate for state senator.

Rosebrough said that one of the things he wants to do is bring more stability to the local party..

Armijo said Friday that the parade of presidents in the past few years has caused “a little bit of disconnection” between the party and staunch Democrats in the county.

She said many county Democrats may still be confused about the Jan. 3 primary in the state and think that they will have an opportunity at that time to vote for the Democratic nominee for U.S. president.

“We’re already made that decision in the caucus we held this past February,” she said, adding that she has found herself helping out the county Republican party by telling local Republicans something they may not know, which is that there are actually two Republicans on the ballot in New Mexico for their nominee for U. S. president — John McCain and Ron Paul.
