Deaths

Richard Long Sr.

ROCKSPRINGS — Funeral services for Richard Long Sr., 62, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Cope Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Ted Ferris will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Long died April 13, 2009, in Rock Springs. He was born April 15, 1946, in Fort Defiance, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Meadow People Clan.

Long went to school at Riverside, Calif. and graduated from Gallup High School in 1968, and attended Haskel Institute in Lawrence, Kan., where he learned carpentry and he also received his Bachelor Degree. He also learned silversmithing and did silver work for 26 years and receive many awards. He was proud of the Bolo he made for Gov. Carruthers. Long made a bolo for Kernel Sanders. He loved competing with other silversmiths. His hobbies included watching PBR, and Wrestling and also watching sports. His favorite team was the Red Skins. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His talent was very unique and was well known for his work.

He was a member of Longs Rodeo Co. with his brothers.

Survivors include is wife, Joanne Long; sons, Herman D. Long of Jacksonville, N.C., Richard Long Jr. of Rocksprings; daughters, Jocelyn A. Long of Rocksprings, Rolanda J. Aimerson of Oahu, Hawaii, Janell N. Long of Rocksprings, Leandra L. McCray of Jacksonville, N.C., Tasheen Goodplume of South Dakota; brothers, Ben Long of Tseyatoh, Thomas Long of Wide Lake; sisters, Bessie McCray of Gallup, Nellie Long of Gallup, Beverly Jones of Tseyatoh; 14 grandchildren.

Long was preceded in death by his father, Joe Long Sr.; mother, Yenabah Long; brothers, Robert Long Sr., Leo Long, Wallace Long, Joe Long Sr., Tulley Long, Archie Long, Ben Chee Long.

Pallbearers will be Herman Chee Jr., Dan Long, Nathanie Long, David Nelson Jr., Eugene Charley, Randy Jones.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fellowship Hall, Mentmore.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Mitchell Jr.

DEL MUERTO — Services for Charles Lovato Mitchell Jr., 48, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Chinle. Rudy Begay will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Mitchell’s acres, Chinle.

Mitchell died April 13, 2009, in Del Muerto. He was born April 21, 1960, in Ganado, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Mitchell attended Chinle Elementary, Gilbert Jr. High-High School and later served in the US Marine Corp. He was employed with Schuck Components, Bashas Store No. 33, Chinle, Revlon Company, Phoenix and was self-employed as a food vendor. He participated in the Veteran’s color and honor guard. Mitchell loved to cook, tell jokes make people laugh, cooking at family gatherings and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Guerro of Del Muerto; sons, Charles Lovato Mitchell III, Christopher Taylor Mitchell, both of Laveen, Ariz., Christian Slater Lovato Mitchell of Del Muerto; daughters, Tamara Marie Mitchell, Lisa Marie Begay, both of Laveen, Kristen Denise Mitchell of Del Muerto; mother, Irene J. Mitchell of Chinle; brothers, Carl Lovato Mitchell of Farmington, Curtis Lovato Mitchell Sr. of Kirtland; sisters, Charlene Mitchell-Chee of Chinle, Corrine Mitchell of Window Rock, Caren Mitchell of Chinle, Christine Mitchell of Chinle, Cheryl Mitchell-Frank of Chinle, Colleen Nelson of Chinle; two grandchildren.

Mitchell was preceded in death by Charles Lovato Mitchell Sr., Kiendrick Devin Chee, Bobby Tsosie.
Pallbearers will be Christian Mitchell, Charles Mitchell III, Christopher Mitchell, Carl Mitchell, Curtis Mitchell, Kevin Barber.

The family will meet at NHA Housing Conference Room, Chinle, 6-10 p.m., tonight, April 16.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bettye Parker-Belliveau

GALLUP — Private services for Bettye J. Parker-Belliveau, 81, have been held.

Belliveau died Monday,April 13, 2009, in Gallup. She was born May 21, 1927, in Gibson.

Belliveau graduated from Gallup High School in 1945. She worked as a school bus driver with Anzac Transportation, ending with Gallup McKinley County upon retirement. She was a member of the Gallup Christian Church. Belliveau loved having family around for fishing trips, family dinners, birthdays or holidays.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur H. Belliveau of Gallup; children, Georgie Broadhead of Rutledge, Tenn., John Bruce Myrick of Indian Wells, Calif., Lura “Micki” Gonzales of Gallup, Wilson Myrick of Gallup, Kendle Ramsey of Gallup, Tauna Chavez of Gallup and Grants; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Belliveau was preceded in death by her parents, George and Oma Parker and sister.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice, 640 Vanden Bosch, Gallup, N.M., 87301.

Sandra Yazzie

SHEEP SPRINGS — Funeral services for Sandra K. Yazzie, 43, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sheep Springs. President Young will officiate. Burial will be in Sheep Springs.

Yazzie died April 11, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Feb. 1, 1966, in Gallup, into the Mountain Cove People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Marcus Marianito, Jeremy Marianito, Jerald Marianito, all of Iyanbito; brothers, Johnny K. Yazzie Sr. of Twin Lakes, Tom K. Yazzie of Sheep Springs; sisters, Ethel Brown of Gallup, Bert Yazzie of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mabel K. Yazzie of Sheep Springs, Michelle Singer of Blanding, Utah, Virginia K. Yazzie of Iyanbito.

Yazzie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom K. Yazzie Sr., Eleanor K. Yazzie; brother, Paul K. Yazzie Sr.; sisters, Shirley Gregory, Rose Martinez.

Pallbearers will be Brian T. Yazzie, Dallon Yazzie, Christopher Fatty, Jared C. Yazzie, Eric Gregory, Michael Martinez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Sheep Springs Chapter House, following services.
