GALLUP — The McKinley Citizens’ Recycling Council is sponsoring several public events on Saturday in celebration of Earth Day.

• Pancake Breakfast: 7 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s; $5 breakfast includes pancakes, fruit, bacon, eggs, and drink. Fundraiser sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

• Electronic Waste Collection: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Castle Furniture parking lot. Albuquerque Recycling, Inc. will accept computers, monitors, laptops, LCD screens, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, stereos, phones, cell phones, computer battery back-ups, computer mice, keyboards, game assemblies, and televisions — TVs are taken for a $5 fee.

The following items are not accepted: alkaline or rechargeable batteries, light bulbs, appliances, microwave ovens, bread machines, water piks, or fans.

• Paper Collection: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Pantry, 1130 Hasler Valley Road. Recycling effort will accept corrugated cardboard, catalogs, magazines, telephone books, packing paper, white paper, shredded paper. Paper is acceptable with pencil, ink, Internet pictures, and highlighter markings.

The following items are not accepted: glue, staples, toxic marker, paper clips, Post-its, carbon, or colored paper.

• Phone Book Recycling: Ongoing effort with seven recycling locations: Community Pantry, 1130 Hasler Valley Road; First United Methodist Church, 1800 Red Rock Dr., south side of building; McKinley County Courthouse Square, north parking lot near the walkway; Gallup Cultural Center, west side; Gallup Indian Medical Center; UNM-Gallup, Gurley Hall; Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital, near the entrance.
