Mescal died Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Albuquerque. Born Feb. 22, 1983, in Crownpoint, into the Tangle People Clan for the Ute People Clan.

THOREAU — Funeral services for Frank Saunders, 79, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, at Thoreau Church of God, Thoreau. Ray and Florence Barker will officiate. Burial will be in Thoreau.
Saunders died April 15, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Thoreau, into the Salt People Clan for the Water Plows Together People Clan.
Saunders attended Crownpoint and Thoreau Community School. He worked and retired from Santa Fe Railroad, Union Pacific in 1975.
Saunders helped raised 29 children. He loved children and being with family and friends. He enjoyed fostering children, listening to the radio, and singing.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Saunders; daughter, Brenda Jake of Thoreau; sister, Edith Johnson of Thoreau; step-sisters, Elouise Johnson, Dolly Foutz, both of Thoreau, Emma Davis of Phoenix.
Saunders was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie Francisco, Ray Saunders; brothers, Johnny Saunders, Albert Saunders.
Pallbearers will be Charley Longs, Gary Larson, Wauseka Becenti, Danny Tom, Rick Becenti, Julian Yazzie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Chapter House, following services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
