Robber holds up Allsup’s Copyright © 2009 GALLUP — Police are looking for a man who robbed Allsup’s convenience store near Patton Drive and Aztec Avenue Friday. The man allegedly walked into Allsup’s at 2801 E. Aztec Ave. Friday about 9:30 p.m., according to Gallup Police Detective Sgt. Matt Wright. The man walked to the counter and demanded the cash drawer. He stole an undisclosed amount and walked west, away from the store. The robber is described as an Hispanic or Caucasian male, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. Wright said the man appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s; he was wearing a black pullover and has dark brown hair and an unkempt goatee. The clerk told police the man had a black object in his hand, but police were uncertain Saturday if the man had been armed. Unbeknown to the robber, Gallup Police Detective Jim Yearly had just walked out of the store when the robber entered, according to Wright. Yearly told Wright he had stopped for coffee and saw the man on a pay phone outside. Moments after leaving the store, Yearly heard the robbery call over the radio and recognized the cashier’s description. Crimestoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the robber. Crimestoppers in Gallup can be reached by calling (505) 722-6161. |
