Jose Sanchez

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Jose Torres Sanchez “Che”, 89, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, Cubero.

Burial will be 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with US Army Honors. Visitation will be 4:30 p.m., Monday, May 4, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, Cubero. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., May 4, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church.

Sanchez died Friday, May 1, 2009, in Fort Defiance. He was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Fort Defiance.

Sanchez was a US Army Veteran who served during WWII. He was a longtime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Survivors include his companion, Petra Montano; children, Kelly Sanchez, Helen Sanchez, Jackie Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Clemente Sanchez, Louie Sanchez, Florinda Armijo, Clorinda Brito, Marilyn Medina, Becky Hopinkah, Carolyn Sanchez; 37 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Sanchez was preceded in death by his wife, Virgilia Sanchez; parents, Jose and Elena Sanchez; daughter, Annie Ruth.

Pallbearers will be Daniel J. Sanchez, Clemente Sanchez Jr., Joseph Sanchez, William Hopinkah, Ruben Brito Jr., and Vincent Brito.
