Walter Barney Sr.

MEXICAN SPRINGS — Services are pending for Walter Barney Sr., 81.

Barney died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in Gallup. He was born May 31, 1928, in Mexican Springs, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

A community gathering will be 6 p.m., Friday, June 26, at Mexican Springs Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leroy Costillo

CROWNPOINT — Services are pending for Leroy Costillo, 40.

Costillo died June 23, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 8, 1969, in Crownpoint.

A family gathering will be 5 p.m., tonight, June 25, at Little Water Chapter (13 miles east of Crownpoint.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dixie Gleason

ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for Dixie Kien Gleason, 58, will be 9 a.m., Friday, June 26, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Thoreau. Brother Larry Burbank will officiate. Burial will be in Thoreau Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., June 26, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church.

Gleason died June 22, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born June 4, 1951, in Crownpoint, into the Salt People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Gleason attended Thoreau High School, Fort Wingate High School, graduated in Salt Lake City, Utah, college in Chicago and attended Pima in Albuquerque. She worked in health care. Her hobbies included being with family, traveling, learning more about Navajo medicine and working toward coming home.

Survivors include her sons, Ronnie J. Gleason Jr., Loren D. Kazuna Jr.; daughters, Carol L. Ruize, Kimberly D. Gleason; brothers, Danny Tom, Freddie Tom; sisters, Chris Henio, Betty M. Thompson, Ellen Tom, Hellen McCleary, Lorene Tom, Sarah Tom; one grandchild.

Gleason was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie J. Gleason Sr.; parents, Frances Mariano Kien Tom, Ramond Kien; step-father, Frank Tom.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Gleason Jr., Michael Romero, Shawn Romero, Steven Jacot-Guillainod, David Castillo, Freddy Tom.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Chapter House, following services.

Wilson Link

ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for Wilson Douglas Link, 93, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at the Community Center, Fence Lake, N.M. Burial will be in Fence Lake Community Cemetery. 

Link died June 20, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 2, 1915, in O'Brien, Texas.

Link moved with his mother and two younger sisters in 1932, in a covered wagon to their homestead in Fence Lake. In 1938, he married Ruth Boyett. They raised their family and farmed pinto beans in Fence Lake until the mid-1950's. In 1957, they moved to Roswell where Link worked as a carpenter for Home Planning Development Company. They moved to Idaho in 1970, where they tried their hand at irrigation farming. Five years later they returned to New Mexico and Link resumed working for Home Planning in Albuquerque. He retired at the age of 69. Link and his wife continued to live in their home until his death. He loved New Mexico, baseball, telling stories and working.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons, Bob, Lynn, Rusty; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Link was preceded in death by his parents John and Jamie Link; sisters, Virginia Bruton, Floice McLendon, Loice Stinnet; daughter, Doris Jane.

Jerry Silversmith

FARMINGTON — Services are pending for Jerry Silversmith, 55.

Silversmith died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in Shiprock. He was born Nov. 14, 1953, in Jones Ranch, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.
