Former Navajo cop’s murder trial opens Copyright © 2009 GALLUP — Former Navajo Police Officer Harrison Largo, 46, stands trial for first-degree murder this week. The trial began Tuesday afternoon following five hours of jury selection. Largo is charged with murder in the first degree, the sentence for which is 30 years in prison — a life sentence in New Mexico. He is also charged with tampering with evidence, which could add three years if he is convicted on both charges. Attorneys for and against Largo gave opening statements beginning about 2:45 p.m., foreshadowing for jurors what each side intends to argue in coming days.
