WINDOW ROCK — Friday was a day to remember Code Talkers who have passed on and to celebrate those that are still around. Navajo Code Talker Day was celebrated at the Navajo Nation Veterans Park in Window Rock beginning with a parade and a ceremony for the honored guests.

Navajo Code Talker Day was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1982. It became an official tribal holiday in 2007. Tribal offices were closed in observance of the holiday.
